Summary

  • Monks in Baldur’s Gate 3 use Ki points for special abilities and excel in melee combat.
  • Mods for Monks in the game add new subclasses, equipment choices, and cosmetic options.
  • Popular Monk mods include Alternate Monk, Way of the Astral Self, and Monk 5e Adjustments.

The Monk class is one of the most underrated classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. These melee combat warriors use Ki points, which allow them to use special abilities. They are also proficient in Constitution, Dexterity, and Wisdom.

Monks tend to get up close and personal during combat in BG3, due to them specializing in melee combat. They have four subclasses: Way of the Drunken Master, Way of the Four Elements, Way of the Open Hand, and Way of the Shadow.

Despite not being as popular as some of the other classes in the game, there are still plenty of mods available for the Monk class. Some of these mods rework certain class elements, while others add new subclasses. Others change equipment or add more cosmetic choices to the Monk’s standard attire.

7 Baldur’s Gate 3 Mods That Add Spells From Dungeons And Dragons

Though Baldur’s Gate 3 has a good selection of spells, not every single one made it over from D&D. Thankfully, these mods bridge that gap.

This topic will take a look at a few particularly noteworthy mods that make the Monk class even more enjoyable. Players looking to take on something new in their next Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough are sure to find something that will take their interest with our mod list.

1

Alternate Monk

Created by Loz

The Alternate Monk mod is a complete rework of the Monk class, including the four subclasses. This includes new subclasses that will appear on this list as mods on their own. Along with eleven subclasses, thirty techniques are added and there are changes made to the three main subclasses from the game.

The mod was inspired by the Alternate Monk Homebrew by LaserLlama, and it manages to adapt the features from LaserLlama’s work into Baldur’s Gate 3’s framework excellently. With enhancements to subclasses, general overhauling, and well-developed integration of elements from the homebrew, this is the ultimate mod for Monk players in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Way Of The Astral Self

For those who don’t want all the bells and whistles included in the Alternate Monk mod, then the Way of the Astral Self mod is a great choice to add a new subclass to the Monk class.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Feats For Sorcerers, Ranked

From Actor to Magic Initiate, there is a bounty of solid feats to choose from for Sorcerers in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Way of the Astral Self is a subclass that appears in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, an official sourcebook for the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. It has been brought to life in this mod for BG3, allowing players to summon parts of their astral self during combat. This mod offers a unique way for players to use their Ki while also having a connection to Dungeons & Dragons in an official capacity thanks to taking inspiration from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.

3

Unarmed And Upgraded

Created by GraphicFade

Next is a mod that offers a wider range of equipment for those playing the Monk class in Baldur’s Gate 3. Monks get a pretty bad deal when it comes to in-game equipment, as they don’t have as much to choose from as some of the other classes. However, this mod changes that by providing new choices to enhance the Monk’s unarmed combat.

With this mod, ten items specially curated for the Monk are added to each act of the game. This includes amulets, rings, weapons, and clothing pieces.

4

Monk Unleashed – The Way Of Ki

Created by Mharius

The Way of Ki adds more Ki points for the Monk class, while also adding some extra features that allow the Monk to strike down their foes with more ferocity.

Some of the features that players can enjoy with this mod include two additional Ki Points as well as Blindsight, Alert Feat, and Mobile Feat. These feats aid with mobility, making maneuvering the battlefield all the more quick and efficient. There are also additional, optional features, such as the bonus action Fast & Furious Hands. By the time players get to level four, they can obtain up to 9 additional Ki Points. This is a must for fans of the Monk class who want to increase the pace of their combat.

5

Way Of The Ascendant Dragon

Created by Sumradagnoth

This is another mod that adds just one subclass for the Monk. It is included with the Alternate Monk mod, but those who only want to add a new subclass (rather than everything included with Alternate Monk) are sure to enjoy Way of the Ascendant Dragon.

Much like the Way of the Astral Self, Way of the Ascendant Dragon is a canon skill for the Monk class in the Dungeons & Dragons world. It is taken from Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, another sourcebook for the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

The mod allows players to channel the spirit of dragons and use their power to enhance their unarmed strike with dragon’s breath essence. This becomes more powerful as players level up the subclass and add more draconic elements, such as spectral dragon wings that increase speed and a protective dragon spirit.

6

Sam’s Monk Backpack

Created by Samerrah

This next mod doesn’t add anything to the gameplay for the class, but it does offer some additional cosmetic options. Sam’s Monk Backpack offers eighteen outfits for the Monk class, all of which work with body type one and body type two. The outfits can also be used for strong body types. As well as boots, hand wraps, clothes, a hood, and a circlet, there are also some weapon cosmetics included in this mod (bows and quarterstaffs).

Which Baldur’s Gate 3 Race Mods Are Your Favorite to Play?

Additional Race mods are some of my favorites, so I’ve tried a few at this point. Among my favorites are the Fire, Water, Air, and Earth Genasi, Shadar-Kai, Aasimar, and Astral Elves.

Players who want more options for their Monk’s look when playing Baldur’s Gate 3 are sure to want to download this mod and start customizing.

7

Monk 5e Adjustments

Created by PlatypusVenom

This adjustments mod does exactly what the title suggests. It makes several adjustments to the Monk class to make it feel closer to the version found in the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

This might sound like a basic mod, but it can be difficult to get the right balance when making adjustments such as those found here. However, this mod manages to fine-tune the balance perfectly so that the game doesn’t feel off or disrupted in any way.

Certain features of this mod are also linked directly to the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, as they are taken directly from the aforementioned Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. With changes to passive moves, active unarmed attacks, and healing, this is another mod that is a must for Monk players in Baldur’s Gate 3.

8

Way Of The Long Death

Created by Sumradagnoth

Last but not least is another Monk subclass mod that is part of the aforementioned Alternate Monk mod. It is another subclass taken directly from a supplement to the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. This time around, the subclass in question can be found within the regional sourcebook, Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide.

This subclass is focused on the mechanics and meanings that surround death. Players take their learned knowledge on the subject and channel it into their unarmed combat style, making for a particularly unique Monk subclass.

Those who enjoy instilling fear into their enemies during combat are sure to enjoy this mod, as it allows players to terrify and unsettle their foes once they reach a certain level. Players can also extract vitality from enemies once they are close to death. For those who enjoy their melee combat with a touch of necromancy sprinkled in for good measure, The Way of the Long Death is a must-download mod for Monk players.
