At times, it can feel as though Larian thought of everything in Baldur’s Gate 3, but there’s always more that can be done, given the number of possible scenarios across the entire game.
Ever since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 in late 2023, the game has been hailed for its incredible attention to detail. Larian left no stone unturned in its quest for greatness, and in any given situation, it does a great job of allowing players to come up with their own solutions to the challenges in front of them. In most cases, the game obliges, but it’s undeniably frustrating when it doesn’t quite consider what the player wants to do. That’s why Baldur’s Gate 3 fans haven’t been shy about missed opportunities in specific areas of the game at times.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players online get locked in a discussion about which companions they tend to leave behind during their adventure.
One such missed opportunity was pointed out by Redditor froggyfrogbug, who reached the Baldur’s Gate 3 Epilogue in multiplayer. Their ending of the game involved their Dark Urge character killing themselves, while their friend’s Tav was left to tackle the Epilogue alone. According to froggyfrogbug, none of the companions left alive at the end of the game even speak about the Dark Urge character, making it feel as though their sacrifice was in vain. This goes for the player’s romantic partner, too – they simply don’t acknowledge the character’s death, which froggyfrogbug describes as “cold and bizarre,” and “makes me feel like my character was just forgotten after a 100+ hour campaign.”
BG3 Player Wishes Characters Noticed Death in the Epilogue
One user pointed out in the thread that files do exist in the game that have the companions acknowledge the existence of a ghostly presence, but they only trigger if the player acts like a poltergeist and moves objects around in front of them. This doesn’t solve the underlying problem here, though. Others felt it was proof of an underlying problem in the game, with several Baldur’s Gate 3 companions‘ deaths treated as if they didn’t happen by others. Even in a game as detailed as Baldur’s Gate 3, the way it handles character deaths certainly feels like a big missed opportunity.
Perhaps these issues are something Larian will address in Baldur’s Gate 3‘s upcoming Patch 8, which will add several important features to the game. Crossplay is on the way, as is Photo Mode and 12 new subclasses. Given it’s set to be the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, Patch 8 will hopefully send the game off with a bang. Changes to how companions handle death in the Epilogue are currently unconfirmed, so players shouldn’t expect anything until the full version of the update is released to know for sure.
