The JAA’s Greatest Mistake: Creating A Legend

Sakamoto’s potential is limitless. Did the JAA create something they couldn’t control?

jaa-gang

Sakamoto left behind his life of crime so that he could fall in love and start a family. However, this act of love did not sit well with the JAA, and in the assassin world, retiring so easily is not an option. Especially for someone as strong and talented as Sakamoto. The JAA has strict rules for deserters and forcibly leaving the JAA is considered an unforgivable act of betrayal. By doing this, Sakamoto ends up having a huge target on his back, making his everyday peaceful life all the more difficult with countless assassins coming after him. Apart from deserting the JAA, the other conditions that the JAA is most concerned about is the highly classified information about the JAA’s operations and the hidden identities of their top assassins. If this information were to fall into the wrong hands, it could wreak havoc within the JAA and things may not be the same in the underworld.

While Sakamoto had no intentions of leaking this kind of information, the JAA takes deserters very seriously and cannot take a risk on a former assassin. According to the JAA, it is much safer to have him eliminated rather than having him alive and walking around with top-secret information. There is also the chance of Sakamoto using the information as leverage against the JAA if he is pushed. The JAA and practically a majority of assassins are aware of Sakamoto’s reputation and, if needed, he could easily wipe out the entire JAA and its assassins if he wanted to. There is speculation that Sakamoto’s disappearance may also motivate other assassins to follow in his footsteps and choose to escape the JAA, making it difficult for the JAA to retain their assassins.

Before I retired, I used my strength to hurt people. Now, I use it to protect the people I love. – Taro Sakamoto

Because of his desertion, Sakamoto now has a bounty on his head, and assassins from all over are searching for him to eliminate him. The JAA believes Sakamoto is a walking time-bomb while also being one of the deadliest fighters in the world. His abilities go beyond normal assassins, and he can take down powerful threats easily, making him a tough traitor for the JAA to just get rid of. However, the JAA still thinks Sakamoto is too powerful of an assassin to be left untouched, and the leaders of the JAA know that keeping him alive as an unpredictable force of nature, could tip the scales not in their favor.
