Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s blacksmithing is a much more drawn-out mechanic than in other games. Blacksmithing can leave you with some of the best weapons in the game, all while making you care more about them because you carefully crafted them yourself step by step.
Blacksmithing requires a few different materials depending on what you’re making, but just about every recipe will require one of a few base metals, Iron
, Copper
, Scrap Metal
, Steel
, Frankfurt Steel
and Toledo Steel
. While there is no mining mechanic, here’s how to get metals.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – Beginner Mistakes To Avoid
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 can be tough in the early going. Avoiding these beginner mistakes will help new players get on the right track.
The best and most reliable method for getting metals is buying them. Metals won’t naturally spawn and respawn like herbs such as Belladonna, so you’ll need to save up your money and go visit certain merchants in order to buy what you need. You can get a good starting number of metals by agreeing to work under the blacksmith when trying to get entry to the Wedding at the beginning of the game, though this is a one-time thing. Your go-to merchants for metals should be:
- General Traders
- Blacksmiths
- Carpenters (they don’t sell metals but other materials needed for blacksmithing)
Since you’ll be buying a lot of metals if you’re really into blacksmithing, it’s best to purchase your metals in bulk in areas where you have a high reputation to try and get the best price. This will require you to increase your carry capacity to hold all your metals or have your horse carry the bulk of the weight. The next and less reliable method for getting metals is by finding them in chests and looting them.
Merchants restock every few days so always check back in when visiting a town to buy up any new stock.

How To Find Chests In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Most blacksmiths have a chest full of metals that you can loot if you’re willing to steal and pick the lock to the chest with a Lockpick
. That being said, your other best option is to check out camps throughout the world. These will often be bandit camps that you’ll need to clear out before looting, but most have a chest or two that may have metals inside. Even if the chest doesn’t have metals, bandit camps are great sources for Groschen that can later be used to purchase metals from a trader.
Camps also get marked on the map as you find them, and those with a red tent are enemy camps. Toledo Steel is fairly rare and will cost a lot when you try to purchase it, so finding it in chests is by far your best bet, letting you spend more money on other metals.
