PSN is Slowly Starting to Work Again

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) is starting to come back online following a 20-hour outage, as users report that connections are starting to return at a slow pace. Though Sony has not commented further on the PSN outage since problems began on February 7, the company is continuing its work to bring the service back up quickly.

Around 6:00 PM Eastern on February 7, PSN users reported connectivity issues with Sony’s online service. Players were unable to log into online titles such as Helldivers 2 or play games that require online verification with Sony’s services. A few hours after the outage began, Sony released a statement that confirmed it was investigating the outage and working to restore service but did not offer any details about what caused it. Understandably, PSN users expressed frustration with Sony’s lack of communication following the initial message.

As reported by PushSquare, Sony’s online service is starting to return online, but logging in remains sluggish due to the number of users attempting to access PSN. Some users reported successful connection tests and logins after nearly 20 hours of downtime, while others reported that the issues persisted. Affected users are met with a WS-116449-5 error code, which is used to diagnose general network problems. Some parts of PSN may also remain inaccessible until Sony’s work to fix the service is complete. Despite the outcry for a response, Sony has not publicly commented about the outage since 8:46 PM Eastern on Friday evening. No timetable for a full restoration of the service is available, but the fact that PlayStation users are starting to log back onto the network is a good sign.

PSN Is Slowly Coming Back Online After 20-Hour Outage

In response to the ongoing PSN outage, comments from popular game developers were posted on social media. On Twitter, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games confirmed PS5 players may have difficulty logging into the game while Sony’s network issues persist. NetEase then said that affected players would be notified once PSN services are returned to normal. Although the PlayStation Network outage is a frustrating matter for gamers across the world, these occurrences are thankfully rare.

The last major PlayStation Network service outage took place in October 2024, though service was restored after eight hours of downtime. This article will be updated once all PlayStation Network functions are fully restored.
