Krispy Kreme Giving Away Free Donuts Because of PSN Outage

PlayStation fans angry over the ongoing PSN outage can get some consolation in the form of a free glazed donut from Krispy Kreme. Sony’s internet service has been out across the globe for hours, leaving PlayStation users unable to use features like online multiplayer or streaming platforms. While the unavailability of PSN is certainly frustrating, at least gamers can get a sweet treat for their troubles.

The PSN outage began around 6 PM EST on Friday, February 7. Almost a full day later, many users still can’t connect to the service, although there are reports of the network slowly coming back online in some areas. The cause of the downtime is still unclear, as is whether Sony will offer anything to PSN subscribers to make up for the issue. If Sony doesn’t take any action, at least Krispy Kreme is giving gamers something to look forward to if for only a moment.

Some have already spoken out against Sony for its lack of communication about the situation, so the acknowledgment and consolation for the outage may come as a welcome change, even if it’s not from the company in charge of the service.

As Sony works to restore PSN, PlayStation users have to deal with limited functionality. Most games will still run, but online multiplayer features and updates are unavailable. Some PC games are affected, too. Players need a PSN account for Ghost of Tsushima’s multiplayer mode on PC, for example, although single-player functions should remain unaffected. Streaming services like YouTube and Netflix, the PlayStation Store and some account management functions will also not work as long as the outage persists.

The widespread outage comes at an unfortunate time, too. Sony just began a massive PlayStation Store February sale, but without a working PSN connection, players won’t be able to capitalize on it for a bit. Thankfully, many of those deals will last later into the month, but it’s frustrating for many nonetheless. As for what’s behind the outage and what Sony will do about it, players will likely learn more once the company has resolved the issue and investigated it further.
