Dice play a crucial role in Citizen Sleeper 2, much like its predecessor. However, a new mechanic that might confuse newcomers is the “dice break” feature, which removes a die’s slot from your inventory until it’s repaired. This can be a major setback in high-risk missions where every roll counts, forcing you to navigate challenges with fewer chances.

Game Rant gets a hands-on look at the early hours of Citizen Sleeper 2, a highly anticipated sequel to the tabletop-inspired indie RPG.
The good news is that repairing broken dice in Citizen Sleeper 2 isn’t too complicated. And this guide covers everything you need to know about the mechanic.
What Breaks Dice in Citizen Sleeper 2
Citizen Sleeper 2’s tabletop gameplay introduces a new “Stress” mechanic that punishes poor decisions. Rolling specific dice pips in stressful situations gradually depletes their HP, eventually causing them to break. Each die has three health points, and once they’re all gone, the die becomes unusable.
The frequency of dice breaks in Citizen Sleeper 2 depends on the difficulty. In Easy (Safe) mode, broken dice remain as glitched ones in your inventory. However, in the Risky and Dangerous modes, losing all HP on a die removes its slot.
Ending the Cycle won’t replenish the broken die. You will need to fix the die to gain that slot back.
How to Repair Broken Dice
To repair a broken die, you’ll need to spend Scrap or Rare Components at the Rig’s Workshop. This Workshop becomes available once you reach Far Spindle—the game’s second area—and speak with Bliss. After meeting these requirements, you can use the Rig’s menu to restore broken dice.
Keep in mind that the Rig’s Workshop can only repair completely broken dice. Unfortunately, there’s no way to restore the HP of a die before it becomes unusable.
Types of Dice Repairs
- Improvised Dice Repair: This method is ideal for beginner Citizen Sleeper 2 players because it allows you to fix broken dice using the more common Scrap Components. However, the trade-off is that repaired dice may gain a glitch. Glitched dice have an 80% chance of failure, no matter their pips.
- Dice Repair: With this option, Bliss can fully restore a die without any risk of glitches. The downside is that it requires Rare Components, which are much harder to find.
How to Get Dice Repair Material
You’ll need two resources for dice repair: Scrap Components and Rare Components. As their names suggest, one is relatively common and can be bought, while the other is much harder to come by.
- Scrap Component: Can be purchased with Citizen Sleeper 2’s money (Cryo) from dealers, such as the Scrapper Ship dealer at Far Spindle.
- Rare Component: Obtained through Contracts, Drives, or by exploring different areas.
How to Prevent Dice from Breaking
Completely avoiding dice breaks is difficult since they’re designed as part of your journey. However, you can take a few steps to reduce the risk:
- Keep stress levels low: Dice are more likely to break when stress is high. Make sure your crew gets enough rest, has sufficient food and supplies, and avoids risky (high-danger) rolls whenever possible.
- Watch out for forbidden pips: Citizen Sleeper 2 punishes certain rolls based on difficulty. For instance, in Dangerous mode, rolling a “1” at stress level one causes damage. To minimize dice breaks, be mindful of these punishing rolls and avoid them when possible.
