How to Get a Free Shield in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Many melee weapons in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 only require one hand to use, leaving your off-hand to be equipped with a shield. Shields greatly increase your overall defense and give you some defense against ranged projectiles.

Shields can make your basic block much more effective, while also still letting you parry and riposte an enemy attack to land a strong counterattack. While you won’t start out with a shield, there are a few options early into the game for those looking to get one.

Where To Get A Free Early Game Shield In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The easiest and strongest shield you can get early in the game is found in the fresh grave just southwest of Troskowitz. First, you’ll need to get a spade, and while one can be bought one can also be stolen, keeping this whole process free. Just east of Troskowitz is the cemetery, and along the back stone structure will be a Spade

that can be stolen, easily done if no one is looking.

With the spade in hand, follow the main road leading west out of Troksowitz and take a left once you reach the Shrine. Head into the batch of trees just off the road and through to the other side to find a large rock with a fresh grave right next to it. Dig up the grave with the spade to find a Von Bergow Knight Shield

, along with the rest of the body of the soldier to loot in case you need armor and a weapon. The items found on the body are:

• Flanged Mace
• Crude Padded Coif
• Worn Gambeson
• Leather Gloves

A lot of the things found from this ambush site are heavily damaged, and you’ll need to get it all repaired before it can be effectively used.

Other Early Game Shields In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

You can find another early-game shield by heading southeast out of Semine and into the forest. You’ll eventually reach a clearing and the location of Von Bergow’s Ambushed Men, with one of the bodies having a shield on it, though it is very badly damaged.

If you’d rather purchase a shield and have the money for it, you can choose one of the few options available at the Carpenter in Troksowitz. This merchant is also a great place to buy a bow or crossbow if you’re looking to get into ranged combat.
