How To Get A Pet
If you are ready to increase the number of members of your household, there are various ways for you to get pets. Dogs and Cats are the primary animals that you need to tend to carefully. You can also purchase some small pets that are much easier to take care of.
If you create a custom family, you can also add some pets as a part of it. You can add some human members to take care of them. This will save you the money that you need to adopt pets in the game. You can also adopt stray animals if you become closer to them. Strays usually stop by your home every day.
Some families like The Kat family come with pets that they already own.
How To Adopt A Pet
There are two ways to purchase or adopt pets in Sim 2. You can either use your telephone to call Pet Adoption Services or visit the Pet Store in the neighborhood community to browse the animals. Small animals like Guinea Pigs and Parrots can be obtained by placing their enclosures.
How To Call Pet Adoption Services
Make sure that you have a phone in your apartment, which you can buy by checking out the appliances section. On the phone, select Call and then Service. You will find many options here, but look for the Pet Adoption Service here. After calling them, you will be presented with a catalog of cats and dogs of different breeds. You can select the one you want.
Notice that the Pet Adoption Service is different from Adoption Service which you can use to adopt a child.
How To Visit A Pet Store
If your community doesn’t have a pet store, you can place Planetary Pet Store from the lot menu. You can then visit it by calling a Taxi and selecting this location. At the store, you will find some cats and dogs placed in glass enclosures. You can check out the options available and then buy the one you want.
Make sure not to buy too many pets at the start. You will have a hard time taking care of them, especially if you don’t have a stable income or if you are unfamiliar with their needs.
How To Take Care Of Pets
Like your human Sims, your Pets have some needs that need to be met. However, you cannot assign tasks to them and everything they do will be unpredictable. You can still shape their behavior by scolding or praising them, which trains them to do certain activities the correct way. Try teaching some commands to your pets so it’s more fun to play with them.
Scolding your pets decreases your bond with them, so do it as little as possible. Never forget to praise them to reinforce positive habits.
Pets need food and a bed to sleep in. You can purchase some small pet beds from the shop menu and then select Pets in the Miscellaneous category. You will find everything you need to take care of your animal friends there. There are also some automatic devices that tend to some of their needs automatically, but they are expensive.
High-quality food bowls and beds will cost a fortune at the start of the game, so start with some cheap ones first and then sell them to get better stuff later.
To feed your animals, you need to place a bowl for them. You can refill it by spending some Simoleons. You can also occasionally feed them a treat to build a better bond with them. Make sure to clean their food bowl when it’s dirty. To clean it, you can either hire a maid or do it yourself by selecting clean after interacting with the bowl.
If you fail to take care of your animals properly, they will be taken away by Pet Adoption Service for better welfare.
Make sure to give them lots of love and play with them often. You can also take them out on a walk. If you call a Taxi, you can also visit some pet parks and other pet recreational facilities with them so they can get some quality time.
How To Take Care Of Cats
Cats are easier to take care of, as you don’t have to maintain their hygiene regularly. They like to clean themselves so you don’t have to give them a bath. However, you should place a litter box at your place, for them to go number two in. Otherwise, they may spoil your home often. Cats also love to scratch things, so if you don’t want your furniture ruined, you can purchase a scratcher for them to control their destructive urges.
Cats love to play with the Cat Nip, so you can place some at your home. You can also interact with them and play with the Cat Teaser. Place a Birdie stick for them so they can work on their hunting instincts. These felines will bring you a smile with their silly machinations, so try multiple fun options with them.
How To Take Care Of Dogs
Dogs are chaotic at first, but you can train them so they avoid having an accident on your floor. If they do, make sure to clean the place up. Dogs won’t clean themselves up and to maintain their Hygiene, you need to give them a bath yourself.
Dogs also like to chew something, and to make sure they don’t destroy the objects in your home, buy them a chewing toy to keep them busy. Dogs are fun to play with, and you can teach them some tricks with the commands menu.
These dogs are active and cheerful, and taking care of them will also take up a significant amount of your energy so make sure to keep your needs met as well.
How To Take Care Of Small Animals
Small Animals like Parrots and Guinea Pigs are easy to take care of. They stay in their enclosures, and you can interact or play with them there. Make sure to tend to their needs by filling them up with food and maintaining it regularly.
You can teach your parrots to talk. If you open the cage they will fly around for a while and will return to their cage later. While they are in their enclosures, you can give your Guinea Pigs and Parrots company by watching them. Parrots are obtained by purchasing Tropico Avian Sanctuary. To get a parrot in it, you can select reload and pick the breed you want. Similarly, you can get Guinea Pigs by placing a FMCU 3000 inside a room in your house.
