Now, a new fiscal report from game publisher Take-Two Interactive has shed some light on how the Xbox Series X/S systems are performing. Microsoft has stopped offering official statistics, so interested gamers haven’t had much to go on as of late. However, Take-Two indicates in its report that Sony and Microsoft have moved around 94 million consoles total. Sony is still reporting its numbers, and with roughly 65 million PlayStation 5 units sold, that leaves the Xbox Series X/S systems with less than half of that, at about 30 million. This number may have increased somewhat, though, as the Take-Two report estimate is set in November 2024.
Xbox Lost The Console War, But…
Microsoft itself has said that Xbox has lost the console war of this generation, with Sony surpassing it in sales and Nintendo leaving both companies in its dust, with over 150 million Switch units sold. However, it’s not all bad news for Xbox. The company has put an increased focus on software, Xbox Game Pass, and the ability to play games across multiple systems, like PC. As such, while Xbox isn’t moving as much hardware during this console generation, the company is still managing to make itself a household name by continuing to offer services and games.
