Electronic Arts (EA) is considering a potential change in the current art style for its casual strategy game, Plants vs. Zombies 3 while emphasizing that they are committed to the fundamentals of the Plants vs. Zombies series: its art style and direction.

Previously, PopCap Games, an EA subsidiary, removed the game’s soft launch from app stores to undergo a major overhaul. The game had been in a soft launch since January 2024, following a prior revamp from its initial soft launch in late February 2020.

The PvZ3 team has released their first blog post of 2025, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how they plan to reimagine Plants vs. Zombies 3. The team emphasized their focus on core aspects of the series, its art style, and direction, stating, “This is what ultimately brings life to the characters of the game and has inspired so many of you all throughout the years!“

While developing new systems and features, the team stated, “We’ve also been reflecting on the direction of our visuals to ensure that we’re creating a game that resonates with you, our players.” I am excited about this new artistic direction and where they are headed.

The PvZ3 team is seeking user feedback on the three potential art styles

They are now actively collecting data for their potential art styles, having previously conducted external tests with focus groups, and are now seeking feedback from the PvZ community. 

The team has shared several potential art styles they are exploring for the game, and they look incredible, especially the first and third ones. The great news? You can have a say in which art style you prefer and here’s how:
