A Civilization 7 datamining effort has apparently uncovered new leaders, civilizations, and more content planned for the 4X strategy game, and there seems to be somewhat of a pirate theme to it. The new leaders rumored to be coming to Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 are 1950s Maori Women’s League President Whina Cooper, 16th-century Moroccan privateer Sayyida al Hurra, and Edward Teach, better known as the notorious pirate Blackbeard.
Civilization 7‘s full release is set for February 11, although those who bought the Founders or Deluxe editions have already started playing, gaining early access that began on February 5. While reviews from fans who have played the game early have not been stellar, the leaders and civilizations in the base game have been among the more positive talking points.

Civilization 7 Is Getting a VR Port, But There’s a Catch
Firaxis’ newly released Civilization 7 is getting a virtual reality port in 2025, but its VR version will come with one notable limitation.
There are currently 21 leaders in Civilization 7. Unlike in previous games, leaders are not bound to one specific civilization, sacrificing some historical accuracy to allow players a lot more freedom as they mix and match bonuses from both sets and experiment to find which combinations work best together. The number of possible combinations may be increasing in the future, as a reported datamining effort shared on Reddit by user ManByTheRiver11 claims to have uncovered the three aforementioned leaders, as well as a number of other civilizations that are mentioned in the game’s files but are not currently playable. These civilization names suggest that the Icelandic, Ottoman, Maori, and Tonga civilizations will be coming to the game, along with a non-specific Pirate Republic.

In addition to the new civilizations and leaders, there also seems to be some code that suggests an additional age in Civilization 7. Presently, the game is divided into the Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age, and the Modern Age, which players enter progressively as they satisfy a number of winning conditions for the previous age. The datamining has revealed a particular file titled “age-atomic-shell,” suggesting that an Atomic Age will be added to the endgame at some point in the future.
The additions of new leaders, civilizations, and an extra age could provide a needed boost for the latest entry in the popular strategy game series. Civilization 7 only has Mixed review scores on Steam, and as of now, early players are split almost 50-50 on whether to give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. Most of these complaints center around an unfavorable user interface and missing features from previous entries, but Firaxis could still win players over by doubling down on leader and civilization combos, one of the most popular features in Civilization 7.
