Some of the best games out there have a healthy community of fans behind them, especially in the indie arena. Some fans tend to feel closer to smaller games, as it is much easier to navigate that community than some of the larger ones out there. One game with an incredible community is Laika: Aged Through Blood, which has amassed an impressive following of dedicated fans, and it recently opened the doors to more with its Nintendo Switch release.
Laika studio The Brainwash Gang has received lots of community support over the last couple of years. And with the recent release of Laika: Aged Through Blood on the Nintendo Switch, new fans are rolling in every day. In an interview with Game Rant, Ivan Papiol and Marcos Vendrell from The Brainwash Gang talk about how the community around Laika: Aged Through Blood has helped to keep the game in the public eye.
Excluding the Nintendo Switch version, Laika: Aged Through Blood was released in October 2023. Due to the fast-paced nature of the video game industry, it’s not uncommon for good games to fall by the wayside after only a few months. Thankfully, Laika: Aged Through Blood is still going strong in 2025. While the game itself is a gripping one, a lot of its continued success can be pinned down to its healthy community of dedicated fans. The Brainwash Gang are very thankful for the supportive community around their games, with the devs explaining,
“We had only released games that were weirder or smaller in the past, and with this one, it really feels like we have passed the ‘threshold of indifference’ because the game’s conversation is still alive in the community as they keep discussing it and making their own art and interpretations on it a year later. We’re so grateful that people still care this much about something we made, it feels special.”
There are plenty of online forums that are filled with fan art and suggestions from Laika players, and it’s good to know that The Brainwash Gang has taken notice. There are just so many ways fans of Laika have found to be involved with its community, whether their favorite parts are the detailed artwork or the game’s captivating soundtrack.
The Next Chapter For The Brainwash Gang
The Brainwash Gang has had a busy couple of years. The developers worked on Laika: Aged Through Blood and Friends VS Friends at the same time. Now that both of those games have been released, the developers have already started eyeing up new projects. While nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, Ivan Papiol and Marcos Vendrell have confirmed that the company has started working on other projects. Thanks to the support from the gaming community and the success of the company’s recent releases, the Brainwash Gang has been able to grow and expand into new areas. As the devs said,
“We have had a year of transitioning from the intensity of developing both Laika and Friends VS Friends at the same time to now that we’re just starting a fresh new game. Until now, we had to work for years not knowing if we could pay our bills when we finished what we were doing, but these releases have given us a little (very little) breathing space that has led us to work along with other studios on their games, and also to explore doing more than just video games in the future.”
As a whole, both Laika: Aged Through Blood and Friends VS Friends have helped to increase the profile of the Brainwash Gang. While fans may have to wait a while to hear any news regarding the team’s newest projects, things are looking bright for the Brainwash Gang overall. Also, thanks to the recent release of Laika: Aged Through Blood on the Nintendo Switch, the team is seeing plenty of new players taking to the game for the very first time.
