Wizkids Baldur's Gate 3 Icons of the Realm D&D Mini Figures Review

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a ridiculous success for Dungeons & Dragons, so of course, it was inevitable that the video game’s now iconic characters and monsters would eventually make the move to tabletop. What wasn’t inevitable was the massive amount of figures we’d get along with the quality of the products. I couldn’t believe how good the Wizkids figures looked when I opened them up.

I’ve had Wizkids products before, my favorite being the company’s Warlock Tiles sets, as they help Dungeon Masters like me create settings like those seen in actual play shows such as Dimensions 20 or Critical Role.

Wizkid products are perfect for giving the average DM the tools to create set-tops for their tables before sessions, leaving theatre of the mind and creating tabletop experiences with visual flair, without needing to print and create everything from scratch.

Wizkids’ next set once again aids in the issue of replacing the theatre of the mind with tactile options, but this time, they bring your favorite characters and creatures from BG3 to life. It ends up being a great stepping stone, bridging the gap between the video game and the tabletop game, with familiar faces and monsters that translate well to the physical medium.

Everyone Is Here

Gale, Karlach, Astarion, Wyll, Shadowheart, Lae'zel and Withers, all 7 Dungeons & Dragons Baldur's Gate 3 Mini Figures from Wizkids on display.

Everyone you can think of from Baldur’s Gate 3 is here. Outside of the main party members, including Halsin and Jaheira, Minthara, every notable character has a mini figure. Volo, Rafael, Gortash, Zevlor, and even Withers make appearances.

Surprisingly, the set ties in very well with the 2025 Monster Manual. In my current game, the party has entered a dungeon, and the Wizkids figures do a great job at filling in the void of figures I was missing.

This collection has 40 miniatures in total, and aside from the obvious addition of Baldur’s Gate 3 characters, there are several monsters and side characters that can be used for NPCs or even druid beast shapes.

The Strange Ox (you remember the one with the long questline), Githyanki, Spectator, and Gnoll have shown up in my homebrew campaign, and the Wizkids figures fit right into the game. This set adds monsters to your own collection that work with and outside of Baldur’s Gate 3, making great substitutions.

I used the Phase Spider as a substitute Drider, and the Bulette as itself, with the imp as a player’s familiar. The ability to mix and match to represent what you need and round out your collection with classic D&D figures and beasts is definitely a benefit to the set.

Quality And Quantity

One thing my players and I couldn’t get over was the actual quality of these mini-figures. I don’t say that lightly, either, as we often print our own minis and make them as intricate as we can. Unfortunately, I have a small, inexpensive 3D printer that gets decent results at best. With each minifigure no larger than a D20, painting them afterward isn’t even a possibility.

This could be why the detail on these figures astounded me. Looking closely at Ketheric Thorm, Dame Aylin, Orin the Red, and a Dark Justiciar and seeing the face and clothing detail will take you right back to BG3. And If you’re more worried about durability than looks, the plastic is pretty sturdy. We’ve dropped a few figures with no issues so far.

Everything is to scale as well, so seeing a tiny adorable intellect devourer or the Imp was a hilarious surprise, as much as the size and scale of the Shambling Mound, the Slayer of Bhaal, or Bulette.

Bring Baldur’s Gate 3 Alive At Your Table

Everyone dropped their own personally printed miniatures and quickly took up the mantle of their favorite Baldur’s Gate 3 character instead. I did have to stop myself from calling everyone by the name of their chosen Baldur’s Gate 3 miniature, but the detail and ease of identifying everyone instead of grey NPC number five was greatly appreciated.

Even more fun is dropping one of these iconic characters into your campaign as themselves and seeing how your players react to Lae’zel or Gale.

If we wanted to play a full BG3 campaign, we have everything we need to run it. These figures will be a great way to transition players from BG3 into the tabletop roleplaying game of D&D in a familiar and fun way. I truly can’t think of a negative aspect to these. With such a vast collection, decent quality, great and detailed design, and the novelty of playing Astarion, Will, Shadowheart, and Karlach, you can’t really go wrong.

But It Comes At A Cost

The biggest issue is probably the price. Wizkids has never been inexpensive, even the sets I’ve purchased from their dungeon tiles have only been discounted through outside sellers like Amazon. The character box set of the cast (including Astarion, Karlach, Gale, Shadowheart, Wyll, Lae’zel, and Withers) will cost $49.99, while the D&D Icons of the Realms: Adventures from Baldur’s Gate – 8 Ct. Mixed Booster Brick will set you back a pretty penny, retailing for just under $200. You’ll have to decide if the cost is justified and what or who exactly you want or need, but the miniatures themselves are brilliantly done.
