Fans of The Witcher franchise have received a lot of exciting news in the past few weeks. Back in December, CD Projekt Red stole the show at The Game Awards 2024 by giving gamers a sneak peek at The Witcher 4. The stunning cinematic trailer for the game confirmed that Ciri would be the main protagonist of the upcoming title, instead of series mainstay Geralt of Rivia. Late last month, CD Projekt Red also announced that it would be hosting a Witcher concert tour across Europe to celebrate The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s 10-year anniversary. Tickets for the event, which will take place later in 2025, have been made available for sale on the official Witcher website.

Although fans will probably have to wait awhile to get their hands on The Witcher 4 or attend the Witcher concert, there will at least be some other things to tide them over in the meantime. Netflix’s Witcher TV series, for example, is getting a fourth season later this year, that will feature Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia instead of Henry Cavill. In addition to this, Netflix is also making a new Witcher movie called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, which is scheduled to come out in just a few days.

Netflix is Releasing a New Witcher Movie Next Week

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is an Animated Movie Set in the World of Netflix’s The Witcher

Revealed during Netflix’s Geeked Week presentation in late 2023, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is the second animated film adaptation of the Witcher franchise, following 2021’s The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. It’s set in the same universe as Netflix’s Witcher TV show, which does not take place in the same timeline as the Witcher games or the books. Although the movie’s art style is reminiscent of Japanese anime, it’s actually being produced by a South Korean company named Studio Mir, which has frequently worked on Western animation projects.

Unlike Nightmare of the Wolf, which took place years before the events of Netflix’s The Witcher, Sirens of the Deep is set right between the fifth and sixth episodes of the TV series. The film, which is based off the 1992 Witcher short story “A Little Sacrifice,” follows the famous monster-slayer Geralt of Rivia, who is tasked with investigating a series of attacks that have occurred within a quaint seaside village in the princedom of Bremervoord. What starts off as a simple monster hunting contract quickly devolves into a race against time, as Geralt has to solve the mystery behind these attacks before war breaks out between the merpeople and humans that inhabit the village.

Geralt’s Voice Actor from The Witcher 3 is Reprising His Role in Sirens of the Deep

The cast for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep features several notable voice actors. The sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, for instance, is voiced by Anya Chalotra, who portrays the character in the live-action Witcher TV show. Geralt of Rivia, on the other hand, is played neither by Henry Cavill nor by Liam Hemsworth. Instead, the voice actor who portrayed Geralt in The Witcher 3, Doug Cockle, is reprising his role. This is the first time Doug has voiced Geralt since 2019, when he last played the iconic character in the 3D fighting game Soulcaliber 6.

Despite the fact that it features many of the same characters, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep has nothing to do with CD Projekt Red’s Witcher RPGs. However, since Doug Cockle is playing Geralt in the film, it may still appeal to some fans of the games. Cockle’s portrayal of the rugged monster hunter was unanimously acclaimed in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and his acting in Sirens of the Deep will probably receive similar praise, as well. Fans can tune in to hear his performance as Geralt when The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep launches on February 11, 2025.
