In this arc, fans saw Bonney’s whole past, as well as her connection to Kuma and the Celestial Dragons being elaborated upon by Oda. But, there are still questions about Bonney’s Past that remain. Who exactly was Bonney’s biological father, and why did he kidnap Ginny? All this hasn’t been answered in the story just yet, but putting two and two together, the answer might already be in front of the readers.
Bonney’s Past And Ginny’s Kidnapping
- Bonney Was Born In Marijoa After Ginny was Kidnapped
- Ginny and Bonney Managed To Leave Marijoa After Being Discarded
The Egghead Island arc of One Piece was absolutely massive for the characters of Bonney and Kuma. Fans saw both of their lives being elaborated upon in great depth, and their individual truths being revealed as well. When it comes to Bonney’s parentage, fans know that Bonney considers Kuma to be her father, and this feeling is largely reciprocated by Kuma as well. After all he’s done for her, there absolutely cannot be a better father for Jewelry Bonney. But, what’s clear in the story is that Bonney’s biological father is not Kuma.
Dragon-san! It’s Ginny. She’s been kidnapped by a Celestial Dragon! — Revolutionary Army members
This was explicitly stated in the story when it was made clear that Ginny was kidnapped during her time as the East Army Commander of the Revolutionary Army. Dragon chose to do nothing about it, and Ginny was made the 8th wife of an unknown World Noble. This shouldn’t be a surprise to any fan, given that the Celestial Dragons are known to take multiple wives, choosing whoever they want, whenever they want, even snatching people they seem to lust over, and then drag them back to Marijoa to forcibly marry. Unfortunately, someone had set their eyes on Ginny, and she ended up being taken to Marijoa to be wed to a Celestial Dragon.
For the longest time, fans believed that Saturn himself was Bonney’s father and the captor of Ginny. But, this idea was disproved long ago, when Saturn himself claimed that Ginny was supposed to be the 8th wife of a fellow Celestial Dragon. For Bonney to have a Celestial Dragon parent and it not be a relevant plotline is absolutely impossible. This is something that Oda will definitely touch upon in the future, and one that fans should most definitely keep their eyes on.
Why Shamrock Figarland Could Be Bonney’s Father
Bonney And Shamrock Share A Lot Of Similarities
The idea of Bonney’s biological father being Shamrock Figarland may seem like a stretch to some, but it most certainly isn’t. The clues have been left behind in the story by Oda himself. For one, Oda once drew gender-bent art of the Worst Generation, and naturally, this included Bonney as well. The appearance of Bonney was remarkably like one particular man—Red-Haired Shanks. Of course, to the fans, this was just a coincidence at the time, because there was absolutely no way that Shanks could’ve had anything to do with Bonney. Even when Egghead revealed to the fans that Bonney had a Celestial Dragon lineage, fans absolutely didn’t suspect Shanks, and for good reason. Shanks isn’t an active Celestial Dragon, and more than that, is a very kind man. He would never resort to forcing someone to marry and have a child with them. So, this idea was largely played down, and rightly so. Garling was yet another individual that fans looked at, but the age difference was way too massive.
No matter what the world says about you, I know my papa is the kindest! — Bonney to Kuma
But, One Piece’s Elbaf arc revealed yet another member of the Figarland family to the fans, and this man turned out to be the elder brother of the Yonko, Red Haired Shanks, and Shamrock Figarland. Given that Shanks and Shamrock are twins, this one again, opens up the possibility of him being Bonney’s biological father. This may be just conjecture on the surface, but if the timelines are taken into consideration, everything aligns quite well.

Ginny was captured around 14 years ago in the One Piece timeline. This means that Ginny was 37 years old, and given that Shamrock and Shanks are twins, he must’ve been 25 years old at this point. It is easily possible for Ginny to have caught the attention of Shamrock Figarland, who could’ve fallen in love with her. It must also be remembered that Ginny was a commander of the East Army of the Revolutionary Army, so taking her Marijoa wouldn’t have been a task for the weak. But, if it was someone like Shamrock, then things make sense. Continuing with the timeline, Bonney’s birth is dated 12 years ago, meaning Shamrock was 27 at the time. Given that Ginny was stated to be 39 at the time of her death, which was 12 years ago, the timelines perfectly align here. Bonney is 12 right now, and Shamrock is 39, given that he’s Shanks’s twin. This goes to show that the possibility of Shamrock Figarland being Bonney’s true father is very real.
What This Sets Up For The Elbaf Arc Of One Piece
Shamrock And Bonney Could Confront Each Other
On the surface, this might look like another one of the things that Oda established in the story cleverly for the fans to notice, but not to have it play an active part in the plot. But, that’s not the case here. The fact that Shamrock kidnapped Ginny is very important for the Elbaf arc of One Piece. Right now, Shamrock is in Elbaf, as is Bonney. Shamrock wants to take Elbaf under his control, but he failed to accomplish that by taking Loki as a member of the Holy Knights. He’s, since then, changed his strategy.
Right now, Shamrock has plans to capture the children of Elbaf and use them as hostages in any battle that might happen in the future. Speaking of children, fans mustn’t forget that Bonney is also a child, at just 12 years of age. Could Oda be potentially setting up Bonney to be kidnapped by her biological father, just like her mother was? The possibility is very real. It is also possible that Bonney will eventually find out that Shamrock is the one who broke apart her true family, and this would set up very exciting things for the future of the arc.
