Pokemon TCG Pocket is a fast-paced game where some of the strongest cards are Basic ex Pokemon. This is because they can get on the field quickly, are searchable with Poke Ball, and don’t need other cards in the deck to work. Stage two Pokemon, on the other hand, are usually unsearchable, slow to get started, and can take up six cards in your 20-card deck.

Torterra
One Hit, One Knockout
There is only one ex Pokemon among Sinnoh’s starters in Space-Time Smackdown and Torterra is not it. However, this single-point Pokemon is capable of dealing some incredible damage in a single blow. For four Energy, Torterra can smack your opponent for 150 damage.
This can topple some of the best ex Pokemon in the set, such as Darkrai, Dialga, or even Palkia. All these powerful Pokemon can be dealt with easily, thanks to Torterra’s damage output. The only downside is that Torterra can’t do it twice in a row.

Mamoswine
The Only Line With A Pseudo Resistance
Mamoswine has both power and durability. It also has a fantastic Ability that protects it from damage from two different types. Thick Fat reduces the damage done by any Fire or Water-types giving Mamoswine its own personal Resistance.

There’s something powerful hiding in the shadows.
Mamoswine is also great since it can take advantage of all the different methods of Energy acceleration that the type has to offer. So, while Frosty Flattening may cost four Energy to use, getting to that 120 damage opportunity is easy to set up.

Porygon-Z
Shake Up Your Opponent’s Energy Zone
Porygon Z is an interesting choice for a Stage two Pokemon. This is because of its Move, Buggy Beam, which does 80 damage and can interfere with your opponent’s strategies. It does this by changing the type of Energy they will receive from their Energy Zone during their turn.
This means if your opponent is only running one type of Energy to keep their zone consistent, Porygon-Z can swap it out for one of eight different types. So the next Energy your opponent might get could become useless if they don’t have a Colorless requirement that can be fulfilled.

Magnezone
Magneton Gets An Upgrade
If you’re looking to upgrade your Magneton, then Magnezone is the perfect opportunity to do so. For only three Energy, this Pokemon can do 110 damage while only having to discard one Energy after doing so.

Magnezone has no other effects, but the fact that you can use the original Magneton from Genetic Apex to charge it up from the Bench makes it self-sustainable. So you won’t need to dip into your Energy Zone for this card’s setup if you want to divert Energy to other Electric-types.

Luxray
A Powerful Strike On The Bench
Luxray is a powerful Stage two Pokemon that has the benefit of dealing massive damage to any one of your opponent’s Pokemon. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the Active Spot or on the Bench, Luxray can hit them and potentially score some easy points.
The only downside to Luxray is that it loses all of its Electric Energy after using this Move. Luckily, it is compatible with Volkner, so getting discarded Energy back is made easy. To top it all off, Luxray also has a free Retreat cost, making it easy to Retreat after performing its attack.

Togekiss
Coming In For A Second Strike
Togekiss has the potential for incredible power due to its compatibility with Cynthia, as well as its own ramping damage. Overdrive Smash is an incredibly cost-effective Move for what it does. It hits for 60 damage the first time it is used and 60 more the second time.

Look out for these cards when opening the Palkia pack.
This gives it the potential for 120 damage in a single blow. If used strategically, you can use the first 60 damage to knock something out, then combine Cynthia with Togekiss to dish out 170 damage on the next Pokemon your opponent sends out.

Dusknoir
Taking One For The Team
Dusknoir is more of a tech card than an attacker. Ideally, you want to pair this card up with a powerful Basic Pokemon that you want to keep around. This is because its Ability, Shadow Void, allows you to suck up any damage your other Pokemon might have accumulated.
So, rather than getting an ex Pokemon knocked out and your opponent scoring two points, Dusknoir can go down instead. While this will give your opponent a single point, it is a calculated loss that can result in a victory in the end.

The Strongest Single Energy Move
In the games, fossil Pokemon have two Evolutions. However, in the card game, they are considered Stage two due to their Basic forms being Fossils. Rampardos has one of the strongest attacks in the game for only one Energy.

Rampardos does 130 damage each time it uses Head Smash. What makes it stronger than some of the other Fighting-types that have recoil damage, is that it only ever kicks in if Rampardos knocks another Pokemon out. This can make it a powerful asset for dealing fatal blows.

Infernape Ex
The Best Stage Two Fire-type Yet
Infernape ex delivers some devastating damage and some quick Retreats as a reward for making it all the way to Stage two. With 170 HP, this Pokemon is quite beefy, allowing it to withstand attacks from some of the strongest cards in the game.
With the help of other Fire-types that can accelerate your Energy generation, discarding two after using Flare Blitz doesn’t feel like a chore at all. Infernape ex also has the benefit of keeping Steel and Grass-types in check such as Dialga ex or Celebi ex.

A Fine Addition For Dragon-types
Garchomp is one of the best Stage two Pokemon introduced in Space-Time Smackdown. This Dragon-type has 140 HP, an Ability, no Weaknesses, and can deal 100 damage each turn for two Energy.
This card is also compatible with Cynthia, allowing it to reach a damage threshold of 150. It can also help you draw into the card with Reckless Shearing. All you need to do is discard a card in your hand to draw a card, allowing you to dig deeper into your deck for useful Supporters.
