Who’s the hottest in Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown expansion? It must be a Fire-type, and the set trickles in a few for players to add to their decks. While the selection isn’t vast, they make up for it by having a powerful ex Pokemon, game-changing status effects, and Evolutions that give some of your weaker Pokemon from previous sets a stronger form.

Look out for these cards when opening the Palkia pack.
With the expansion focusing mostly on Sinnoh, it makes sense that there aren’t as many Fire-types. However, the ones that made it into the set all bring something fresh to the table. So where do they all rank up when stacked against one another for the crown?

Slugma
A Simple Fire Pokemon
Whenever you pull from a pack, odds are you’ll end up with a handful of common cards that aren’t going to do much but fill out your collection. Sometimes, they can be good for building your first deck, and Slugma fills the bill.
With 70 HP, and a Retreat Cost of two, it can be a little slow at first but will eventually give you some opportunities to try out some interesting Status Effects added to the game in this set. Out of all the Basic Pokemon, Slugma is the least interesting as an individual card, but Evolve it, and you’ll find you can start turning up the heat.
7
Magmar
Stoking The Flames
Space-Time Smackdown is the third set in a row to get a Magmar card. What makes it different this time around is that the line can finally Evolve. So is this Magmar worth using over the other ones? With 80 HP and no damaging Moves, it isn’t the greatest attacker. However, Stoke is worth using if you want to Evolve it later.

The real space-time manipulation is how much quicker you’ll end battles.
This is because Stoke lets Magmar build up an additional Fire Energy each turn. The second time it is able to use this, it will have accumulated enough Energy to Evolve and start dishing out heavy damage. The only downside is that it needs to use its own Move to accelerate Energy production but can help you cut Moltres ex in specific single-point builds.
6
Chimchar
Sinnoh’s Fire Starter
Chimchar is one of the very few native Fire-types from the Sinnoh region. Therefore, the collection wouldn’t be complete without it making an appearance in Space-Time Smackdown. Chimchar is by far the best Basic Pokemon to go into if you’re looking to go into any of the Evolution lines in the set.
This Pokemon has standard stats all around from its 60 HP, 20 damage output, and single Energy Retreat Cost. However, it is the best step towards getting one of the best Fire-type Pokemon ex that Pokemon TCG Pocket has to offer.
5
Monferno
A Fine Middle Evolution
Monferno would normally not get any commendation due to the fact that it doesn’t have any special Abilities or even effects that accompany its Move. However, when compared with all the other middle Evolutions, Monferno manages to maintain consistency in terms of Energy costs.

Fiery Punch may only do 30 damage, but with a cost of one Energy, it allows Chimchar to go into Monferno without leaving it vulnerable. This allows it to keep attacking while you load up your other Pokemon with Fire Energy. Once you get two Energy on Monferno though, it will be ready to Evolve into Infernape ex and be ready to attack right away.
4
Heat Rotom
Elevate Your Damage
Heat Rotom is a simple Pokemon to use if you want to try attacking some Basic Pokemon for Fire-type damage. Heat Breath costs two Energy to start using and has a base damage of 30. If you land the coin flip, though, you can bump this up to 60. This can easily topple many weaker Pokemon in one hit if you get lucky.
There are other Pokemon in the roster that can deal more consistent damage for less Energy but without the additional type damage. If anything helps Heat Rotom’s usability, it’s the fact that it is a common card, making it easy to gain access to and start using in budget decks.
3
Magcargo
Burning Your Opponent’s Pokemon
Mascargo is one of the easiest budget Pokemon to utilize if you want to start using the Burn Status Condition. So, while Mascargo does not have the same raw power as other Fire-types, it can provide you with some more complex opportunities to come out on top.

Mascargo has 120 HP and its Move is not expensive to use, requiring only two Energy to start hitting. Burn also does 20 damage every turn that it is not healed. This can quickly ramp up if your opponent is unlucky with their coin flips. Burn also works in the same way Poison does since it is one of the few Status Conditions that can stack on top of others.
2
Magmortar
A Massive Blast Of Fire
If you Evolved your Magmar, then you’ll have a Magmortar ready to lay down some heavy fire. With 130 HP and Bursting Inferno doing 100 damage each turn, this card can easily take down the biggest threats in as little as two swings. To make things easier, Magmortar does not require an Energy discard after using its Move.
Magmortar also dishes out the Burn Status Condition, giving you a chance to deal an additional 20 damage between turns. This can help Magmortar remain a threat even if your opponent takes it down. Magmortar can Evolve from any of your Magmar cards that you have already collected from previous sets.
1
Infernape Ex
The Fastest Fire-type Stage Two
Infernape ex is not just a solid Fire-type, but a pretty decent ex Pokemon in general. It beats Charizard ex in terms of speed by having both a low-cost attack and a free Retreat Cost. So, while Charizard ex can hit harder, Infernape ex can put it down before it can reach full power.
With so many ways to get Energy onto Infernape ex, it’s not too difficult to use the Flare Blitz each turn, even with the necessary discard. Infernape’s free Retreat Cost puts in plenty of work when you want to avoid getting knocked out or want to bring in a different attacker so you don’t lose momentum between Flare Blitz.
