- Despite being released in 2011, Skyrim still receives updates, with a vast mod library enhancing replayability for gamers.
A Skyrim player has shared a screenshot in which they’re attacked by three identical bandits outside Bleak Falls Barrow. If gamers play enough Skyrim, they’re bound to encounter duplicate NPCs, but this rare occurrence could be the only time a player has seen three at once.
When Skyrim was released, it shared some similarities with its predecessors, while introducing new mechanics and a fresh open world. Among the parallels with earlier titles are RPG-based character building, a rich story, and some duplicated assets. Given how massive the open worlds of Skyrim and its predecessors in the Elder Scrolls series are, a lot of character models and voice lines are reused. While this isn’t as noticeable in Skyrim as in Oblivion, gamers continue to come across NPCs identical to others they’ve met while exploring its open world. One player has shared a screenshot highlighting this phenomenon captured when they ran into three identical bandits at a low-level location.

Reddit user Few-Advance-585 recently shared a Skyrim image highlighting three bandits with the same character model. The screenshot captured at Skyrim’s Bleak Falls Barrow showcases that it’s possible, however rare, that bandits in one location can all share the same character customization. While these NPCs seemingly share the same character creator attributes and each wears Studded Armor, they wield different weapons. One bandit has a Hide Shield and an Iron Axe, another is equipped with an Iron Shield and Iron Mace, and the final one uses a two-handed weapon that’s blocked from view. The screenshot also shows that the player has used most of their stamina, meaning they may be unable to use more than one charged hit in combat, and may have to kite the enemies given they’ve lost a quarter of their health.
It’s Rare for Skyrim Players to Encounter a Trio of the Same NPC
Before these bandits, it was relatively common to run into duos of identical Skyrim city guards, mages, vampires, and Cultists who all dress the same, but typically look different under their armor. Among the responses to Few-Advance-585’s post include comments comparing the trio to Ed, Edd, and Eddy, the Three Amigos, Marco and Leonel Salamanca, Star Wars‘ Clones, the Wayans brothers, Mr. T, and more. Other Reddit users suggested that these Skyrim bandits are simply triplets that went into the world of crime together. Despite simply being an image, many gamers could imagine the three bandits saying the re-used dialogue “you never should’ve come here” in unison.
Despite being a game from 2011, Bethesda still occasionally updates Skyrim. The most recent updates revolve around the vast library of featured mods that can extend the game’s replayability. While the duplicate NPC issue may not be part of The Elder Scrolls 6, it’s part of the charm of Skyrim and earlier titles in the series.
