Tactical multiplayer shooters such as Counter-Strike 2 and Rainbow Six Siege are pretty standardized at this point, and with good reason. The blend of understanding your environment, finding those sightlines, coordinating with your squad, and making every move matter to get the edge on the enemy is unmistakably satisfying. But Krafton, the studio behind the mighty PUBG: Battlegrounds, wants to put a new perspective on the format – quite literally – with its next game PUBG: Blindspot.
Formerly known as Project Arc, PUBG: Blindspot is now the official name for Krafton’s new 5v5 multiplayer game that steps away from the FPS constraints into a top-down angle that pushes careful, realistic tactics over the twitch aiming and reaction times of games like CS2. Don’t let the shift away from first person fool you into thinking this makes things easier – if anything, the new angle only enhances the strategy required to come out ahead.
Battles take place in a variety of military complexes, warehouses, and neighborhoods. Your sightlines at all times are defined by what your team is capable of seeing. That means an enemy pressed up against the wall on the other side of a doorway might just elude your vision. You’ll need to carefully coordinate your movements as a team, making use of various gadgets and tools to create opportunities or distract opponents while you execute a killer flanking maneuver.
If you’re eager to try PUBG: Blindspot, you don’t have long to wait. A demo will be available as part of Steam Next Fest beginning Friday February 21, giving you a chance to test your skills in the latest build of the game. The build features ten characters, each with their own signature weapons and special tools. There will be three team deathmatch maps and four demolition maps. You can find it right here.
