A Pokemon fan has shared their adorable Ivysaur cosplay, giving the Pokemon a creative reimagining. This particular Pokemon fan has imagined their Ivysaur as a gardener, which only seems appropriate for a Grass/Poison-type Pokemon.

One of Pokemon fans’ favorite things to do with their preferred Pokemon is to give them a more humanoid redesign. The fandom typically refers to these fan works as Pokemon gijinka, which carry over some characteristics and design elements from the Pokemon to a human, creating a sort of Pokemon/human hybrid. This particular fan carried over elements of Ivysaur’s inherent design while also adding a few charming touches all their own.

Reddit user and cosplayer basically_peaches shared their Ivysaur cosplay with the community on the site, uploading some photos of the look. The Ivysaur gardener cosplay features a bluish-green jumpsuit in Ivysaur’s palette, complete with its spots on the legs. The cosplayer has a blue wig, decorated with flowers, and a careful look reveals Ivysaur’s little ears peeking out from under the tendrils. The biggest and most impressive element of the cosplay is surely the backpiece, though, as the cosplayer has painstakingly recreated the Pokemon’s blooming bulb on their back. Although the photos don’t demonstrate it, basically_peaches says that the bulb actually lights up as though it’s charging up its solar beam attack.

Pokemon Cosplayer Breaks Down the Process For Fans

Numerous players have been eager to share their praise with basically_peaches, with most appearing to love the creativity and the execution of the piece. Several had questions for basically_peaches about how they designed it, to which she shared some insight. The jumpsuit was custom-made from a pattern that she sewed, despite being new to sewing. The bulb is made out of EVA foam, which they then painted. Fans seemed particularly impressed at the gradient they achieved on the bulb, and basically_peaches noted that the airbrush they used was a game changer for it.

Pokemon cosplay is an interesting way of showing one’s appreciation for the series, as those who do it have very varied methods in how they choose to represent it. Some prefer to create Pokemon gijinka, like basically_peaches, while others stick with more animalistic Pokemon looks that are closer to the original designs. Some have also chosen to portray Pokemon trainers instead, often with an accompanying Pokemon, like a Viridian Forest Pidgey trainer cosplay. No matter how they do it, Pokemon fans never stop finding ways to celebrate pocket monsters.
