Overwatch 2 just pushed out a hotfix that buffed Mercy in Overwatch: Classic. The infamous namesake of the Moth Meta should now be able to dominate matches even more during this Overwatch 2 throwback event.
Last year, Overwatch 2 surprised fans with Overwatch: Classic, a limited-time game mode that threw things back to where they were when Overwatch 1 first launched. On February 4, Overwatch: Classic returned once more, this time to the era around September 2017 that featured Ana and Sombra, Symmetra’s Photon Barrier, and DPS Doomfist in Overwatch. This period was noteworthy in that nearly every team fielded a Mercy, as the hero’s reworked single-target, instantaneous Resurrect, combined with her free-flying Valkyrie ultimate, made her especially powerful, granting this era the name “Moth Meta.”

Overwatch 2 reverses its decision to vault a popular cosmetic in Season 15, giving players the chance to unlock it in the game indefinitely.
Now, Overwatch 2 has implemented a small hotfix that will be sure to keep the “Moth” in Moth Meta. As of this small update on February 6, Mercy’s Guardian Angel should have an increased speed and range when used during her Valkyrie ultimate, specifically in Overwatch: Classic. Additionally, the cast time of Resurrect is more appropriately instantaneous, allowing her to more readily aid her allies. Despite this, Mercy still cannot perform her “Superjump” maneuver – a bug from the original Overwatch that later became a feature of her kit.
Some players may wonder why Overwatch 2 would buff Mercy in Overwatch: Classic, as the Moth Meta got its name from how effortlessly the support hero dominated the era. In truth, these buffs are technically a bug fix intended to bring her back to the balance she had in 2017, rather than a new power increase.
This small hotfix is another example of Overwatch 2’s new Rapid Balance Update technology at work. Using this tech, Overwatch 2 has been able to roll out two or even three smaller bug and balance updates in the weeks between major season and mid-season updates. Fans can expect at least one more hotfix before the end of Overwatch: Classic targeting Doomfist.
Overwatch: Classic will be available in Overwatch 2 from now until February 18, when Season 15 is planned to start. Before then, fans can look forward to an Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12, which will provide a first look at new heroes, maps, and major changes to PvP coming later in 2025. If these exciting updates were not incentive enough to watch, players can earn both the Lucio Cyber DJ and Flirty Flare Baptiste Legendary skins as free Twitch drops by tuning in to the broadcast.
