Spoilers For Natlan’s Archon Quest Ahead
What Is The Night Kingdom?
The Night Kingdom is a different realm that co-exists with the Natlan region. It’s a home for the souls of the people of Natlan after they die. It’s also the home to the Wayobs who the various tribes in Natlan hold in high regard. These entities can look into the future and past, and they also chose members deserving of the Ancient Names.
The warriors are able to visit the Night Kingdom without completely dying, as they are in a state between life and death.
These Wayobs are responsible for protecting the Natlan residents from the abyssal effects on their well-being and health. However, the Night Kingdom is overloaded with abyssal beings which also impact the Wayobs.
The events of Cataclysm, which lead to the destruction of Khaenr’ah, also led to the Abyssal invasion of the Night Kingdom. It caused more problems for Natlan, and as a result, it was prophesized that Natlan will be destroyed within the next five hundred years after the Lord of The Night can no longer sustain it.
To restore The Night Kingdom, the Traveler went with Mavuika to defeat Gosoythoth who is basically the source of Abyssal corruption of the Night Kingdom.
Who Is The Lord of the Night?
As Natlan’s Ley Lines were weakened due to the effects of the Archon War, it became almost an inhabitable place. To stabilize the region, Ronova, who is the ruler of death, designated The Lord of the Night, Yohualtecuhtin, to make the Night Kingdom.
Xbalanque who is also the first Pyro Archon after defeating Xiuhcoatl, who was the dragon sovereign of Natlan, set up the rules for the Ode of Ressurection with Yohualtecuhtin to save Natlan from its impending doom.
It was Ronova who informed Xbalanque about the future of Natlan. They made an agreement which allowed Natlan’s human archon to use Ronova’s powers, but they will die to stabilize the Night Kingdom by giving powers to the Lord of The Night.
What Is The Ode Of Resurrection?
The Ode of Ressurection allowed the bearers of the Ancient Name to come back to life if they won in battle in the Night Kingdom. However, if they fall in battle against the abyssal monsters, they would die and cannot return. Their ancient name is also lost, and eventually they forget who they were as a person by becoming one with the Sea of Souls.
The Ode of Resurrection could occur as a blessing to Natlan’s residents by Ronova.
During the Archon quest, some strange incidents happened due to the effects of Abyss. It prevented Kachina’s return to the mortal realm, even after she won in battle. As a result, the Traveler had to visit the Night Kingdom to find her soul before it was completely lost.
What Happened To Capitano?
Capitano is a member of Fatui and also a former knight of Khaenri’ah who had deep connections with Natlan. After the destruction of his homeland, he resided in this region as his new home. He had lived long enough to have his body completely corroded while he lived with the curse of eternal life. While he fought battles alongside Ayizu, who was a tribal leader in Natlan.
His original aim, as he mentioned, was to reconstruct Natlan’s Ley Lines, but things happen differently by the end of the Natlan Chapter. Capitano was carrying the lost souls of many of his comrades near to his heart. He wanted them to have peace.
When Mavuika is about to sacrifice her life, Capitano instead offers his eternal life to Yohualtecuhtin, which will stabilize the Natlan’s Ley Lines forever. The Lord of the Night Kingdom did not turn him down as his life holds an equal value to the Pyro Archon.
Ronova wanted a death that meets her requirements, according to the Archon Quest, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be an Archon.
However, Capitano could not die due to the curse of eternal life, and if he didn’t die, Ronova could not get the death she wanted. As a result, she had to take back one of her rules which demanded the sacrifice of life. Capitano then merges his existence with the Lord of the Night, and Natlan is now stabilized for eternity.
