The many blocky worlds of Minecraft are filled with mobs of all shapes, sizes, and appearances. From the minuscule Chickens to the humongous Ender Dragon, each mobs’ colorful details and silhouettes make them instantly recognizable and iconic to players new and old. However, in recent years, Mojang has begun introducing variants of mobs based primarily on their home biome environment. This was initially seen with Sheeps’ many wool colors but was later expanded upon with Zombie variants such as Zombie Villagers, desert Husks, and water-bound Drowned. With Mojang quickly introducing new regional variants for mobs like Cows, Pigs, and Wolves, it should consider adding more regional variants for other mobs in Minecraft.

Minecraft’s Newest Mob Variations Explained

In early January, Mojang teased several new features that will soon be coming to both Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editions. These included a new recipe to easily craft lodestones with iron ingots instead of netherite, leaves falling from every tree and creating leaf litter on the ground, white and yellow wildflowers being able to be made into dye, and new cold and warm Pig variants being introduced. The white-furred, cold Pig variant can be found in colder biomes such as groves, taiga forests, and snowy plains. The orange-furred warm Pig variant can be found in warmer biomes such as deserts, jungles, savannas, and plains.

Toward the end of January, Mojang teased more upcoming features including glowing firefly bushes, regular bushes, ambient desert sounds, and new cold and warm Cow variants. Unlike the regular Cow, both the cold and warm Cow variants have larger, elongated horns akin to caracu and vianesa cattle breeds. The orange-furred, cold Cow variant can be found in the same biomes as the cold Pig and the red-furred, warm Cow variant can be found in the same biomes as the warm Pig. Finally, in early February, Mojang teased two more mob variants in the form of cold and warm Chickens, alongside cactus flowers and dry grass. The black-feathered cold Chicken will lay blue eggs while the orange-feathered warm Chicken will lay brown eggs.

New Regional Variations For Other Minecraft Mobs

While the new cold and warm variants of Chickens, Cows, and Pigs are a welcome site in diversifying the wildlife of Minecraft, Mojang could add more regional variants of other mobs to make further biomes more visually interesting. With warm Chickens, Cows, and Pigs bolstering the population of deserts, Mojang could introduce new variants of Camels for desert, plains, and badlands. The current Minecraft Camel is based on the dromedary Camel which mostly lives in desert environments, but Mojang could introduce a new variant based on the thicker-furred bactrian Camel that typically lives in grasslands and mountains.

Similarly, Mojang could introduce new regional variants for aquatic mobs such as dolphins. Minecraft’s Dolphins, which can be found in all Minecraft ocean biomes except frozen and cold oceans, are currently based on the common bottlenose Dolphin. However, some Dolphin species can be found in colder waters and even certain rivers, such as the Amazon river, Baiji, Hourglass, and White-beaked Dolphins. Mojang could introduce the Amazon river Dolphin, otherwise known as the pink river Dolphin, to spawn in rivers near jungle biomes, while the black White-beaked Dolphin could spawn in cold oceans. These additions could further diversify empty rivers and other bodies of water in Minecraft.

Regional Bears and Goats in Minecraft

There are currently two types of Bears in Minecraft, the Panda and Polar Bear. While these can only be found in jungle and icy biomes, Mojang could add a few more Bear variants to spawn in other forest and mountain biomes such as Black Bears and Grizzly Bears. Similarly, there’s only one type of white Goat in the game that spawns on snowy slopes, jagged peaks, and frozen peaks. Mojang could add more Goat variants to spawn in other mountainous biomes such as the Nubian Ibex and the Markhor. These additions could make certain biomes more engaging for players to build their bases within.

Alternate mob variations have been previously considered before in mob votes, such as the White Dolphin in Minecraft: Chinese Edition.
