Hello Kitty Island Adventure: 10 Characters Who Should Be Added
Hello Kitty Island Adventure has a lot of cute Sanrio characters already, but we’d love to see these ones too.
However, while both games are similar on the surface, they are quite different in the details and the features they offer. Each game has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages, but let’s see how they compare to each other, and see if Hello Kitty can beat out Tom Nook for the crown.

Island Residents
Draw
In terms of sheer numbers, New Horizons wins out by having more than 400 villagers in its roster, so there’s a lot of variety in who can come to live on your island. While Hello Kitty Island Adventure has far fewer, it has the benefit of its cast being established Sanrio characters. Everyone loves Cinnamoroll and My Melody, of course.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s characters are more fleshed out and have individual personalities, whereas New Horizons’ islanders can only have one of eight pre-determined personalities. This makes New Horizons’ islanders a little repetitive, especially as you will always need to double-up on at least two personalities to fill the ten spots on your island. It’s up to personal preference whether you want more villagers to choose from or more distinct characters.

Soundtrack
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The Animal Crossing series is known for its excellent soundtracks that change depending on the time of day and season. While New Horizons’ soundtrack isn’t the best in the series, it still does a great job of making you feel like you’re on a new adventure and building a life on the island.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s soundtrack is okay, and it does what it needs to do, but it doesn’t have that something that makes it special and memorable. It’s very easy to turn the sound off and listen to something else while you’re playing, whereas you want to hear New Horizons’ music while you’re doing your daily tasks.

Daily Activities
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Animal Crossing is well-known for its use of real time, and while it makes for a great, slow-paced and cosy experience, it makes things difficult when you’re trying to develop your island in New Horizons – which is the game’s main goal. You can only build or move one building per day, so you’re often limited in the developments you can make.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure: All Seaside Resort Puzzle Room Locations And Solutions
Seaside Resort has a total of five puzzle rooms in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, and here’s how you can solve them all.
While Hello Kitty Island Adventure is similarly paced, you aren’t so limited. You can complete any quests you want per day (as long as you reach other requirements). The only thing you’re really limited to is three gifts per day to your island residents, and you can do pretty much anything else you want.
You can change the time on your Switch to bypass New Horizons’ daily limit, but trying to do the same in Hello Kitty Island Adventure may result in a corrupted save file. However, you can sleep in a bed to change the time of day.
7
Decorating
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The best part of New Horizons is how much freedom you have with decorating your island and your house – there’s even an entire DLC dedicated to decorating with Happy Home Paradise. You can change the shape of the rivers, add bridges and inclines, set furniture outside, and use custom patterns.
While you can decorate cabins, including your own, in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, the island is already pre-decorated for you. It looks fantastic, but that element of creative freedom and being able to make the island completely unique to you just isn’t there.
6
Performance
Draw
Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s performance will depend on what platform you’re playing it on, but as we’re comparing it to New Horizons, which is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, we’ll compare how the two perform on Switch. Both games perform decently well, but there is notable lag in both.
When you’re running around Hello Kitty Island Adventure, your game might lag behind slightly, which can be bothersome when you’re completing minigames. New Horizons can also lag badly if you have a lot of furniture displayed, which pretty much goes against its ethos of decorating to your heart’s content. Both have issues, but neither is worse than the other.
5
Crafting
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
One of the biggest complaints fans have about New Horizons is the limit on crafting one item at a time and needing to craft or buy tools when they break. Hello Kitty Island Adventure, however, lets you craft multiples of the same item, and, once you craft a tool, you have it forever.

There are five unique potions that you can brew in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Here, you can learn how to make each one.
On the flip side, you can press A repeatedly while crafting in New Horizons to speed up the crafting animation, but this isn’t an option in Hello Kitty Island Adventure, so you have to watch the animation each time. Having your tools last forever and not break is a big win though, especially when they’re what you’re using most often.
4
Minigames
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
This is an easy win for Hello Kitty Island Adventure, as New Horizons has no minigames, to the point where fans started to create their own when playing multiplayer with their friends. Hello Kitty Island Adventure has six minigames you can play on the island, which you need Game Tickets to play.
You can also play these minigames with friends if you join up for multiplayer and win prizes from them, such as clothing or furniture. While Hello Kitty Island Adventure could have a few more minigames, at least it has them in the first place.
3
Quests
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
There is one singular quest in New Horizons: develop your island and build up your star rating so that K.K. Slider will come to play a show. While this is a fine goal, New Horizons would have more depth if there were other, smaller quests throughout the game.
Technically, there Nook Miles Goals, but these act more like achievements than proper quests.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure, however, has a multitude of quests connected to opening up the island and growing your friendship with the Sanrio characters. These quests help to keep things moving along nicely and allow you to connect more with the characters on the island.
2
Critter Collecting
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Both games have lots of critters for you to collect throughout the island, and you can display them either in the Nature Preserve in Hello Kitty Island Adventure or in the museum in New Horizons.

A personality change can be quite refreshing; just ask these Animal Crossing villagers.
New Horizons offers a lot more to do with the critters you collect, though. You can display them outside, with many of them making great natural decorations, or you can give them to Flick in return for a decorative model based on their likeness.

Winner
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Your preference over whether Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Hello Kitty Island Adventure is better will largely come down to what you want to spend the majority of your time doing. Hello Kitty Island Adventure has more to do in terms of minigames, quests, and bonding with the island residents, whereas New Horizons primarily focuses on decorating your island.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure definitely doesn’t win the decorating competition, but it has much more to offer elsewhere, so you’ll have more things to do in general. One of the biggest issues New Horizons has is that there isn’t much left to do once your island is decorated and K.K. Slider has visited, so if you’re looking for a cosy game to keep you occupied for longer, Hello Kitty Island Adventure might be the better option for you.
