Luckily, these tips will ensure that players bring home the booty and get the best possible outcome for hunting the Legendary Bear in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Know Where the Legendary Bear Hunts

Head Near O’Creagh’s Run in the Grizzles East to Begin the Hunt

To start, players are going to need to know exactly where to hunt the Legendary Bear, and it’s worth noting that this can only be done after completing the Chapter 2 mission with Hosea: Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego. After the mission has concluded, players can find the Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear in the North radius of O’Creagh’s Run, in the Grizzles East area of Ambarino.

Players will know they are in the right area, as the spot between ‘L’ and ‘S’ in ‘Grizzles East’ will have a white radius, and the game will have a prompt showing that Arthur has entered Legendary Animal Territory. Once inside the radius, the hunt begins…

Get An Instant Kill With a Tomahawk

The Tomahawk with Dead Eye Can Instantly Kill the Legendary Bear

This can only really be accomplished by players who are hunting the Legendary Bear with Hosea in the Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego mission in Chapter 2, as when they finally witness the dreaded hulking grizzly bar, they cannot kill it with guns. However, there is a way to instantly kill the Legendary Bear, which involves using Dead Eye and a Tomahawk. The combination, paired with a direct headshot, will instantly kill the bear.

So early on in Chapter 2, the Tomahawk can be found within Six Point Cabin, an area just underneath the ‘Cumberland’ in Cumberland Forest in New Hanover. Tomahawks are also purchased from fences and trappers for $4, but so early in the game, Six Point Cabin is where to go, where players can now attempt to use Dead Eye to make a unicorn of the Legendary Bear and instantly kill it.

When going in for a hunt against an aggressive animal, it’s always a good idea to consume a special tonic beforehand so that players will have gold bars to protect their Health, Stamina, and Dead Eye cores. While many tonics can do the trick, the Special Miracle Tonic, which is acquired via random looting, will definitely be the one to seek out, for this will greatly fortify the Health, Stamina, and Dead Eye cores to make sure Arthur can tank a few extra hits before going down.

Health tonics such as the Special Miracle Tonic are a great idea, as the Legendary Bear doesn’t mess around, and if players are grabbed by the great beast, it’s more than likely that they are going to die. With a health tonic, players might just be able to break free with some health left over to fill the Legendary Bear up with bullets.

Use Cover Scent Lotions to Hide From Animals

Most animals in Red Dead Redemption 2 have an incredible sense of smell, and out in the woods where their territory is distinguished by their senses, it’s important that players don’t disrupt that with their distinct stench. Sure, taking a bath wouldn’t go amiss, but for players who want to be completely scent-free to hunt animals without them sniffing around for a human, they can use the Cover Scent Lotion.

Cover Scent Lotions can be purchased for $.125 at trappers and general stores, or they can be crafted. Taking one of these before the great hunt begins is a decent way of covering Arthur’s tracks so that he can surprise the Legendary Animal he is hunting due to his lack of distinct scent.

Use Eagle Vision to Hunt for Clues

When not aiming a weapon, players can click in L3+R3 (analog sticks) on their controllers to activate Eagle Eye. Eagle Eye is what is best used for hunting animals, as it will hone Arthur’s senses so that he can see what is around him to allow him to hunt for clues to discover the prints and trail of the Legendary Animal that he is hunting.

While the Legendary Bear might be big, it does often wander away from its radius, so using Eagle Vision is a great idea to find clues that provide further tracking paths for the Legendary Bear, so that players will eventually find its resting ground.

Use Scoped Rifles From Afar for a Safe Kill

The Legendary Bear isn’t going to go down without a fight, and one might think that a rifle, especially a scoped one, has the stopping power to drop a bear dead. However, even with a powerful rifle like the Rolling Block Rifle, it’s still going to take around 4 shots in the head to kill the Legendary Bear.

However, don’t be afraid of the fact it’s going to take quite a few bullets as if players position themselves right, perhaps on a rock or a far-to-reach place, players can quickly spam Dead Eye to instantly reload the Rolling Block Rifle and dump the shots they need into the bear before it can run towards the player.

Dual-Wield Revolvers for a Faster Kill

Understand that Pelt Condition Doesn’t Matter

If players don’t want to use a rifle or simply do not have one yet, then they can always rely on the old faithful cowboy tradition of a six-shooter, or perhaps two. Revolvers have a few different ammo types that provide them with extra damage, and players can freely unload these revolvers into the bear for fast and efficient damage, regardless of how many bullets it takes.

Players do not need to worry about shooting the Legendary Bear beyond recognition, as Legendary Animals do not have perfect pelts, and there is no condition penalty to worry about. This means players can use any gun they want, or even some dynamite, just because they feel like it.

Remember the Price for the Legendary Bear

To the Victor, Goes the Spoils

After dropping the Legendary Bear and skinning it, players can take it to the Trapper in order to sell the Legendary Bear Pelt for a whopping $60. That’s not a bad price, especially in Chapter 2 where funds are pretty low. With the Legendary Bear Pelt now sold, players can also purchase new items from the Trapper, like the Bear Hunter outfit, with the rather impressionable hat being $40 and the discarded head of the bear itself.

With the Legendary Bear Claw that players claim, they can take it to a Fence and sell it for $10, and then, along with a Silver Chain Bracelet and Quartz Chunk, they can craft the Bear Claw Talisman that will lower the drain speed of the Health Core by 10%.
