How to Farm Lockpicking XP in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Lockpicking is one of the harder skills to train in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 because of multiple factors. While Henry can just pick up a sword and start a fight with a bandit by heading out of any random town, he can’t really lockpick chests and locked doors quite as easily.

For one, finding a locked chest that can be picked without someone stumbling upon the crime in action is not easy, and even if Henry does manage to find one, it has to be a very easy lock for him to have a chance. Thanks to the sparseness of locks of this nature and the constantly patrolling guards and NPCs, it’s very difficult to practice lockpicking in the game. Luckily, the developers have devised a dedicated tutorial section for players interested in this mechanic that can be used to power-level lockpicking in the very early game. However, it is a bit out of the way and easy to miss.

How to Farm Lockpicking XP Early in KCD 2

You can easily level up lockpicking very quickly in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 by enlisting the services of the Miller in Lower Semine, who provides Henry with a training chest made specifically for training the Lockpicking Skill. This is by far the easiest and most efficient way of gaining experience and practice with lockpicking in the early game. Here is how players can locate this chest and get the Miller’s approval to use it.

  1. Head over to Lower Semine, a small village southwest of Semine. You can easily find it by following the quest marker for the Wedding Crashers questline optional objective: “Gain access to the wedding party with the help of Miller Kreyzl (Optional).”
  2. Talk to Miller Kreyzl, and he will ask you to carry some sacks of ‘flour’ to the cart in front of his shop. Agree to his demands or pass the speech check to skip to the next part.

  3. After a small cutscene, Miller Kreyzl asks Henry to steal an important document from the Troskowitz Rathaus. Agree to accept this quest (Materia Prima) and choose the dialogue option “I’d like to learn about thievery.” This will unlock basic training for the three aspects of Thievery and Stealth-related skills: takedowns, pickpocketing, and lockpicking.
  4. For lockpicking, head into the same shack where you picked up the sacks of ‘flour,’ and you’ll see a Lockpick (very easy) chest. Use a lockpick to complete the mini-game and unlock the chest. You’ll find seven new lockpicks inside. Since this is a very easy chest, Henry will be able to pick the lock even if he has never done so before. After you successfully lockpick it once, the chest will automatically close and lock itself, allowing you to pick its lock again and again, earning you a moderate amount of XP for every successful attempt.

You will need to start with at least one lockpick of your own to start this exercise. The miller only provides the chest, not the lockpicks.

  5. However, this is meant to only be a training exercise and not a way for Henry to reach level 30 Thievery in the span of an hour. After you reach level 9 in Thievery and level 6 in Stealth, Henry will comment, “I’ve got nothing left to learn here.”
  6. After this point, the chest will remain permanently open, and you can no longer practice lockpicking it. Still, this is an excellent start and the fastest method of reaching this point. From here on out, Henry will be able to pick easy and medium locks without much trouble.

From here on out, the main way to earn more lockpicking XP is to find actual locked chests under the cover of darkness and apply your lockpicking skills to them. The harder the lock difficulty, the bigger the XP gain.
