  • After multiple delays, Sports Interactive and SEGA decided to cancel FM25.
  • The developers have cited an inability to meet the expected quality standards.
  • Players who pre-ordered FM25 through SEGA-approved retailers will receive automatic refunds.

In a surprising turn of events, Sports Interactive has officially announced the cancellation of Football Manager 25, shifting its focus to the next installment in the franchise. The decision follows extensive internal discussions and evaluations with SEGA, as the team struggled to meet the expected quality standards despite multiple delays.

Originally planned for release in November 2024, FM25 was later pushed to March 2025, with promises of significant technical and visual advancements, including a transition to the Unity engine and a revamped user interface. The game was supposed to arrive on Android and iOS as a part of the Netflix Games.

However, “unforeseen challenges” and the team notifying they hadn’t “achieved what we set out to do in enough areas of the game” ultimately led to its cancellation. While some aspects of the game met expectations, Sports Interactive admitted that the overall player experience and interface failed to reach the required standards, even with the revised timeline.

Instead of launching an incomplete product and addressing issues post-release, the studio decided it was best to redirect resources toward ensuring a stronger future release. This cancellation means that FM24 will not receive an update for the 2024/25 season.

I remember reading a lot of rumours surrounding the delay in the launch of the 25 edition where it was mentioned an announcement on Friday was about to come, but it was really surprising when they announced a cancellation.

Players who pre-ordered FM25 through official SEGA-approved retailers will receive automatic refunds, with customer support available for any inquiries. As the team remains focused on the next Football Manager title, we shift ours to FM26, and here’s hoping it doesn’t meet the same fate, which I believe is highly unlikely.
