Final Fantasy 14 is finally getting some long-term content in the game’s next major patch series, which Yoshi-P recently revealed will be called Seekers of Eternity and will begin in late March. Yoshi-P revealed last month that this next patch series would finally add the long-awaited Cosmic Exploration and Dawntrail’s Field Operation. Finally, Yoshi-P has given us more details about this major updates.
To start with, Yoshi-P detailed exactly what we can expect from Cosmic Exploration, which is a major piece of new content designed for crafters and gatherers which will let players from the same World work together to “explore the cosmos”. You’ll work together to transform a barren star into something a lot prettier, completing missions and events together as a community to nuture its development.
We see several screenshots of buildings and structures that we’ll presumably be able to create, including a snazzy zipline we can grind on to get around. You’ll be able to do all of this content solo if you wish, but Yoshi-P says it’s meant to be done as a community, to really “give that MMO feeling”. Each major patch in the 7.X patch series will have a new star that can be explored, and more details will be revealed at a later date.
Next, Yoshi-P goes into more detail about Patch 7.2’s Field Operations, which will see players venture to an island called the Occult Crescent. On this island, you’ll battle the inhabitants to explore unmapped terrain and uncover its secrets. Much like Eureka and Bozja before it, this is a wide open area that can be explored with other players. We then get a bunch of screenshots of this wide open plain, which is full of creatures, ruins, and mysterious bubbles.

Maybe a break from FFXIV will help me recharge my Warrior of Light battery.
Bosses will be roaming around the area, just like in field operations before it, with large scale bosses also available to take on with other players and raid with a group of up to 48 players will be available to tackle right from the beginning.
We then get into the mechanics of the area, as players will need to be level 100 as a Disciple of War or Magic to enter. While exploring the island, you’ll raise your Knowledge Level, which will “greatly influence” the outcome of battles. Players will gain access to a new mechanic called Phantom Jobs, which will grant players new actions that can be used at the same time as their main job.
Yoshi-P then uses a Warrior as an example, as making a Monk your Phantom Job will give you access to more offensive abilities, while a Bard will give you more supportive abilities. There will also be jobs never seen before in Final Fantasy 14, including Geomancer, Ranger, Berserker, Time Mage, Chemist, and Cannoneer. Yoshi-P specifically mentions these jobs were picked as he wanted to include them in FF14, but wouldn’t really fit with the core gameplay.
Finally, Yoshi-P reveals more details about Dawntrail’s relic weapon grind, which will give players a choice between two methods. One of which will have players explore the Occult Crescent, while another will let players grind through existing content. Not many details have been released at the moment, but Yoshi-P says more info will be in the next live letter.
