Summary

  • Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.2 introduces futuristic mechs and aims to address past community criticisms.
  • Dawntrail will provide new content like Cosmic Exploration and Phantom Jobs, offering unique gameplay options.
  • Occult Crescent in Dawntrail will feature new jobs like Geomancer and Time Mage, adding more depth to gameplay.

Final Fantasy 14 is adding plenty of new content in Patch 7.2, one of which includes futuristic mechs, as players will work with the Loporrits to colonize barren stars and turn them into thriving hubs. While many players see Dawntrail as a step back compared to Endwalker, Final Fantasy 14 is planning an ambitious set of patches to address some of the major criticisms that its community has had in the past few years. Compared to Shadowbringers, Endwalker lacked a long-term multiplayer endgame activity for fans to engage with. There was no equivalent to either Bozja or Ishgard Restoration, funneling players towards Savage and Ultimate Raids.

Among its other content, Patch 7.2 for Final Fantasy 14 aims to provide a fresh take on these multiplayer activities, with one aimed towards combat jobs, and the latter aimed towards crafters and gatherers. Whereas Island Sanctuary was designed for solo play, Cosmic Exploration once again places emphasis on teamwork and community, as servers will work together to develop the surfaces of barren planets with the help of the Loporrits. It should be noted that while Patch 7.2 will introduce Cosmic Exploration, more planets will be added in subsequent Final Fantasy 14 updates.

Final Fantasy 14 Producer Confirms Some Long-Awaited Dawntrail Features Are Coming Soon

Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida says that some of Dawntrail’s most anticipated features will arrive within the coming weeks.

The upcoming content was teased during the latest developer livestream for Final Fantasy 14, with the Live Letter showcasing Cosmic Exploration, Phantom Jobs, and the Occult Crescent, a new Field Operation inspired by Eureka and Bozja. Cosmic Exploration is intended to be a server-wide effort, as gatherers and crafters will combine their skills to build the infrastructure of a barren world from the ground-up. These settlements will feature Loporrit mechs, as well as a unique traversal system featuring zip lines.

Final Fantasy 14 Introducing New Multiplayer Activities in Patch 7.2

The other highlight of the Live Letter is undeniably the Occult Crescent, which is intended to be Dawntrail‘s answer to Bozja and Eureka in Final Fantasy 14. What separates it from its predecessors is that Occult Crescent will feature Phantom Jobs, allowing players to combine their active job with a secondary one. For example, a Warrior could combine the job’s primary skill set with that of a Bard for better support abilities, or choose Monk for more offensive power.

In addition to the currently available jobs in Final Fantasy 14, the Occult Crescent will also add new jobs unique to the game mode. These include franchise favorites such as Geomancer, Ranger, Time Mage, Berserker, Chemist, and Cannoneer. Patch 7.2 will also introduce Relic Weapons for Dawntrail, and players will be able to pick between two paths of progression: via the Occult Crescent, or by farming currently available content. Final Fantasy 14 fans should be able to find out more about Patch 7.2 in the near future during the next Live Letter.
