Dragon Age has always spawned fan theories, but one of the messiest comes from the game that kicked it all off. Back in Dragon Age: Origins, your quest takes you to the village of Redcliffe, as you have to revive the Arl, Eamon Guerrin. To do that, you have to deal with a demon that is possessing his son, Connor.
As part of this, you’re introduced to Eamon’s wife, Isolde, and his brother, Teagan. However, while nothing is outright stated, fans have long believed that Isolde and Teagan have something going on. There was just something in the way that they spoke to each other… or perhaps it’s just because Teagan is a lot hotter than his brother. Either way, fans were convinced.

Now, it turns out we were completely right. As spotted by Tumblr user felassan, technical designer Cori May just casually confirmed that not only are Isolde and Teagan having an affair – but Teagan is also Connor’s biological father.

Isolde hating Alistair for being a bastard just got very hypocritical… and perhaps understandable
May confirmed this in response to fans discussing headcanons and fan theories over on BlueSky. She followed up in a few replies to fans, saying that she cannot remember whether or not Eamon is aware that Connor is not his son (I would assume not, since he is on good terms with his brother in-game). May also suggests that Isolde got jealous when Teagan spoke with the player character since he will hit on them if they’re a woman. Oh, the hypocrisy…
The internal wiki May mentions is likely the “black codex” or “master lore doc” that other writers have referred to. This is basically a bunch of lore notes that contain all the real facts about Thedas, since in-game codex entries are often biased or written by those who don’t have all the facts.
Speaking of hypocrisy, this might explain Isolde’s beef with Alistair. As you may recall, Alistair is the bastard son of King Maric, raised by Eamon in Redcliffe. However, some in Eamon’s circle suspect that Alistair is actually Eamon’s son, including Isolde, so he’s not exactly treated great. Isolde has Alistair sent away once Connor is born – which makes a lot of sense if she knows her own son isn’t really Eamon’s. As far as Isolde is concerned, Alistair is Eamon’s only biological child, which could pose a threat if Connor’s true parentage was ever discovered. Never mind that Alistair is a clone of his actual father, I suppose.
So, while this was never confirmed in-game, the devs did drop enough clues for fans to figure out that something was going on in this family. What a mess.
