Summary

  • Dead by Daylight’s next 2v8 event will use bots to boost survivor numbers.
  • However, the devs say this will not be the default, and the bots will only be used when killer queue times are too long.
  • The event will run from February 10 to 25.

2v8 is returning to Dead by Daylight, with a Resident Evil-themed event kicking off on February 10. However, there will be some changes this time around, as the devs want to keep the queue times down for killers.

Speaking to us in an interview, senior designer Jean Escalante said that the devs would put up to two bots in a lobby, so killers aren’t left waiting for a team of survivors. Some feared that this would mean every 2v8 match would have a couple of bots, prompting the devs to clarify exactly how this will work.

On social media, the Dead by Daylight team tells fans that matches will only “occasionally” add up to two survivor bots. It’s further stated that this will not happen automatically, and will only be in place when they are needed to avoid a long queue time.

Dead By Daylight Will Use Bots In 2v8 Matches

The bots will only be used when necessary, and there will only be one or two of them

“In order to alleviate long Killer queues for this iteration of 2v8, we [will] occasionally add up to 2 Survivor bots to lobbies that may need them,” reads the post on social media. “The bots will not be automatically added to all lobbies, but rather used in situations where they may be needed to reduce the wait time for all players.”

So, the game should not default to two human killers, six human survivors, and two bot survivors. However, if there are not enough human survivors to go around, it seems that Dead by Daylight might end up relying on the bots fairly frequently. We’ll just have to wait and see how everything fares when the event goes live.

The event starts next Monday and will run until February 25, lasting about two weeks.
