What are the Civ 7 cheats? You can’t build a glorious Civilization 7 empire without a firm handle on diplomacy, economics, strategy, and… cheats? Well, while completely optional, cracking open the game’s debug console and tweaking a few parameters can give you a massive advantage if the AI is giving you a hard time.
Before you can get into the Civilization 7 debug console, you’ll have to jump through a couple of hoops first. Don’t worry, as we’re here to guide you through every step. Once enabled, the 4X game will let you do everything from removing the fog of war to quickly advancing the Civ 7 Ages. More on that below.
How to enable the Civ 7 debug console
The Civilization 7 debug console isn’t enabled by default, and requires editing the ‘AppOptions’ document found in your installation files.
To enable the Civ 7 debug console:
- In Explorer, head to C: > Users > AppData > Local > Firaxis Games > Sid Meier’s Civilization VII.
- Open the ‘AppOptions’ file using Notepad.
- Scroll to ‘;EnableDebugPanels -1’ and replace with ‘EnableDebugPanels 1’ (make sure you remove the ‘;’).
- Save the file.
To open the now-enabled Civ 7 debug console in-game simply load into a game and hit the tilde (~) or apostrophe (‘) key depending on your region, and it’ll open the console up as pictured below. Here you can use the ‘Move’ tab to relocate the console’s position on your screen, or ‘Debug’ to get into the meat of things.
Civ 7 cheats
The Civ 7 cheats aren’t ‘cheats’ in the sense that you need to enter a debug console code to spawn x, y, or z. Rather, the console offers a few incredibly helpful options that can give you a major strategic advantage.
- Under the ‘Map’ tab, use ‘Reveal All’ to give full vision of everything on the map.
- Under the ‘Map’ tab, use ‘Explore All’ to reveal the map without granting full vision.
- Under the ‘Map’ tab, uncheck the ‘Enable FOW’ box to remove fog of war, and vice versa.
- Under the ‘UI’ tab, go to the ‘Gameplay’ secondary tab and use ‘Force Age Transition’ to end the current age.
