Throughout your hacking and slashing venture in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, Ryu Hayabusa will collect several formidable weapons to add to his arsenal. Some of these weapons are taken from certain bosses or after battles, while others are found throughout levels.
These weapons all play differently, giving you a diverse set of different playstyles depending on your preferred approach when dealing with bosses, fiends, and enemy ninjas. All weapons need to be leveled up in Muramasa’s shop and unlike in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, you’ll need a lot of essence to purchase their upgrades.

Vigoorian Flail
Sickle Nunchuks Of A Fallen Empire

Vigoorian Flails are fast-comboing short-ranged weapons that are effectively sickle-bladed nunchuku. They are very speedy, but lack range and damaging potential. You can find this weapon in a treasure chest in Chapter 3, around the area where you started near Muramasa’s shop.
They’re not handy in battle against large fiends or particularly skilled ninjas and bosses. But they are super useful when you encounter the swarms of ghost fish that can get pretty relentless in the Aquaducts and other tight corridor regions. The swift and flashy combos can clean out the whole swarm once you trigger their attention.

Fiend’s Bane Bow
Your Trusty Bow Against Flying Fiends And Faraway Archers

You only get two unique ranged weapons for Ryu Hayabusa. Technically, three, if you count the shuriken you can throw to briefly stagger enemies. The Fiend’s Bane Bow is the first you receive and arguably the best one to use for the sake of certain enemies to take down.
You first obtain this weapon at the Hayabusa village level and is used to take on long-range archers and complete certain puzzles to progress. Throughout the rest of the campaign, this weapon is useful for taking on flying monsters, and faraway rocket-wielding ninjas, and is pretty useful during the fight against the first phase of the Archfiend.

The Tonfas are another fast comboing weapon with a decent range and minor damaging effects. They’re a much better choice for fighting human-sized enemies like the Black Spider Clan ninjas, spec-ops ninjas, and the smaller human-sized fiends.

There are quite a few versions of each Ninja Gaiden game. Here’s all of them, and which is best to start with.
The Tonfas can be discovered in a treasure shortly after defeating some fiends in the Lycanthrope castle where Vulf’s picture is hanging. The Tonfas are great for keeping your combo numbers high, but by the time you get this weapon, you’ve already got the Kusari-Gama, which is a better alternative for speedy combos.

Falcon’s Talons
Razor-Sharp Martial Art Gauntlets
Strength |
Medium |
---|---|
Speed |

Range |

These are a sleek set of damaging gauntlets worn on Ryu’s hands and feet. Like several of the tools in your arsenal, these bladed gauntlets are based on real-life ninja tools called the tekko-kagi, but they are used more for scaling castle walls instead of fighting. They can be found in one of the buildings as you navigate the Hayabusa village on the second level.
The Falcon’s Talons have the shortest attack range of most weapons, but make up for it with speedy strikes, overwhelming combos, savage slashes, and quick charge-ups for more attacks. This weapon is great for taking on ninjas in smaller corridors and can be a great counter to the smaller and faster fiends.
6
Kusari-Gama
Traditional Tool Of The Trade With Sharp Edges
Strength |
Medium |

Speed |
High during combos |
Range |
High |
The classic ninja weapon from the Edo and Sengoku eras, the Kusari-Gama is great for maintaining combos on enemies while keeping a good distance from them. The weapon is a weighted chain attached to a hand sickle and your combos can change between the chain and the sickle depending on whether you start with a quick or strong attack.
The strong attack revolves around using the chain, while the quick attacks revolve around the sickle. The Kusari-Gama has the same fighting style as the Vigoorian Flails, but its versatility and range are better and sleeker.

Enma’s Fang
The Fiend Basher

Enma’s Fang is a massive sword that can deliver hurt to large enemies, swiftly lopping off limbs and setting you up to deliver the finishing blow on them. Despite its size and strength, Ryu Hayabusa swings it around with the same swift finesse as though he were wielding the Dragon Sword.

Enma’s Fang can be found in the museum area of the Lady Liberty Section, which humorously has several samurai/ninja displays for some reason. This great sword can launch large fiends like Werewolves in the air and can bring down larger bosses like the Fire Armadillo with relative effectiveness.

Lunar Staff
Fearsome Battle Staff

This is the first weapon you can find in the game, attached to a Buddha statue you come across after facing several ninjas in the first level. The Lunar Staff has great range and is perfect for managing groups of enemies when things get a bit hairy.
The weapon is based on three-piece staffs with each end segment having a weighted tip extending out to make the attacks strike wider. The weapon makes up for the medium damage capability for the amount of stunning blows you can deliver with every series of combo attacks.
3
Eclipse Scythe
The Fiend Reaper
Strength |

Speed |

Range |
Medium |
This is a large, fiendish Scythe that you get after defeating the Greater Fiend Vulf. Lore-wise, it’s considered an heirloom of the Lycanthrope clans. When Ninja Gaiden 2 was initially advertised and marketed, the Eclipse Scythe appeared frequently alongside the Falcon’s Talons and Hayabusa’s Dragon Sword, even though it is not too prominent in the game proper.
This is a great weapon that delivers speed and power when you chop through ninjas and other fiendish monsters. The Scythe’s charge attack sends a massive shockwave that devastates foes in its wake. Outside of that, the range and strength of the Scythe is fairly high and is a great weapon against the bigger fiends that appear in later chapters.

Blade Of The Archfiend
The Mystical Blades Of Rivals Come Together

After Ryu Hayabusa’s final battle with a Fiend, a transformed Genshin, he bestows his sword on him, the Blade of the Archfiend. Ryu then uses the Blade with the True Dragon Sword, which replaces the dual katanas Dragon’s Claw and Tiger’s Fang.
The Blade of the Archfiend combines the versatile speed of the dual katanas with the power and devastating edge that come with these two powerful swords. The only downside is that if you haven’t gotten accustomed to the combos and fighting techniques of the dual katanas, this would be a bit tricky to learn in the final chapter moments of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. You will always have access to this weapon once you unlock the trials and Chapter Challenges.

True Dragon Sword

This is the ultimate form of the Dragon Sword. When Ayane gives Ryu the Eye of the Dragon, this form of the ancestral katana becomes activated, unlocking the fourth stage of the weapon’s ‘upgrade’. This is the strongest weapon in the Ninja Gaiden series, signified by the radiant glow of the katana’s blade.
Since the Dragon Sword is the first weapon you have and the one you’re most likely to use throughout the campaign, this upgrade adds a bit more to your combos and includes several new charged-up attacks. Technically, the regular Dragon Sword would also be in this entry, but once you complete the story mode for the first time, you permanently have the True Dragon Sword for trials and challenges unless you play a new game.
