Larian has revealed all the features coming as part of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s long-awaited Photo Mode, which will be arriving as part of the upcoming Patch 8. Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to improve with every new update, and an in-depth Photo Mode has long been one of the community’s most requested additions.
Larian first announced all the Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 features back in November 2024, and has been slowly hyping them up as progress has been made. On top of Photo Mode, it will also bring crossplay, allowing players to finally game with their friends across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Perhaps the most significant addition is the 12 new subclasses, adding tons of replayability to Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s set to be a big update, with community stress testing currently ongoing. However, Larian has yet to lock down a concrete release date for Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Patch 8.

Of the new subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3, the Shadow Magic Sorcerer’s signature feature can heavily enhance a popular multiclass with another caster.
In a video posted on X, Larian talked gamers through all the features in Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Photo Mode. During exploration and combat, Photo Mode is fully available, with players able to fully animate and move characters to their heart’s desire. NPCs can be toggled, too. Stickers, frames, and post-processing effects can also be added to each scene. There is one limitation, though. During cutscenes, players will no longer have free movement of the camera, and only post-processing effects will be available here.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Photo Mode Detailed
Photo Mode can even be accessed in Baldur’s Gate 3‘s online co-op and split-screen modes. Only the host can open it, pausing the game for everyone. However, all players in the lobby can change the scene in real-time, although post-processing effects are unique for each user. Larian even asked players to share their favorite pictures taken with Photo Mode online, of which there will surely be no shortage.
Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Patch 8 will mark the end of an era. Larian has confirmed that this will be the last update of this scale for the game, even if some minor support will continue for any potential catastrophic bugs that need to be fixed in the future. The studio has already largely moved on to its next project, which likely won’t be revealed for some time yet. While it’s sad that support for Baldur’s Gate 3 will essentially be over, it opens up even more possibilities going forward.
