Since Marvel Studios acquired the X-Men film rights, Kevin Feige has seemingly been interested in giving the Fox-era version of the mutants a fitting farewell before rebooting the franchise with new actors. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Aaron Stanford, and more have reprised their roles in the MCU through the Multiverse. However, most fans suspect new actors will eventually be cast as the mutants, which Feige hinted at when he teased a new X-Men era after Avengers: Secret Wars. Rumors of a Fired MCU Actor’s Return Are Reportedly False

A fired MCU actor was rumored to potentially return to wrap up their character’s storyline, but new reporting claims this was never considered.

On The InSneider, Jeff Sneider reports that actress Julia Butters is eyed to play Kitty Pryde in Marvel Studios’ X-Men MCU reboot. Butters has starred in multiple high-profile movies, including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, and the upcoming sequel Freakier Friday opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. She also starred in The Gray Man from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are rumored to oversee Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot. Sneider ‘understands’ that Butters is Jewish and her Instagram page notes that she was born in 2009, meaning she would share the same faith as Kitty Pryde and be the right age to play a student at Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Children.

Sneider also noted that he continues to hear that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is being eyed to play Jean Grey in the X-Men MCU reboot and that Harris Dickinson is being considered for Scott Summers/Cyclops. However, Sneider emphasizes that “interest doesn’t amount to a signed deal.” Factors such as money, scheduling, and how much of a commitment Marvel Studios wants from these or any other actors could affect how casting unfolds. On Twitter, Sneider added that official casting news and a director for the X-Men MCU reboot will likely be announced in “the next few months,” as filming could begin in 2026 for a late 2027 release after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Fans are likely thrilled to hear that Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot will allegedly start casting sooner rather than later. While it’s been fun to see Jackman and others reprise their roles alongside MCU characters, part of the appeal of seeing the X-Men in the MCU was the potential for a fresh start with new actors in the iconic mutant roles. Fans have mixed reactions to the rumored cast contenders (most seemingly loved the idea of Hunter Schafer playing Mystique but are less enthusiastic about the names reportedly being considered for Storm). Still, there’s generally much excitement about how Marvel Studios will handle the X-Men, and it sounds like fans will get a better sense of what those plans look like in the coming months.

Marvel Studios’ X-Men is in development.
