Summary
- Rick Grimes’ leadership and survival skills in The Walking Dead make fans believe he could thrive in The Last of Us world.
- Some fans worry Rick’s “god complex” and handling of diverse infected types in The Last of Us could hinder his survival.
- To survive in The Last of Us, Rick would need a compelling reason to live and must negotiate well with other groups.
The Walking Dead wasn’t short on strong and skillful characters who were willing to do anything to survive. It’s fair to say that, initially, some never quite made the mark when it came to rising to the challenge, like Eugene and Gabriel, who let fear take them over, but after some time, even these characters fought hard for their place in the horrific post-apocalyptic world.
A protagonist for nine seasons of The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, has been at the top of many fans’ lists when it comes to knowing how to prevail in the face of dire circumstances as a fearless leader. Able to jump into action when needed and constantly on the lookout for the safety of his group, Rick proved his worth countless times. However, what would happen if Rick had to deal with learning how to survive in the world of The Last of Us? Would he strive or break apart? The Walking Dead fans have a few things to say about the topic.

Walking Dead Fans Wonder How Rick Would Exist in The Last of Us’ World
For those who have played the game and watched the HBO show, The Last of Us is filled with unspeakable horrors with close parallels to The Walking Dead in terms of trying to survive not only the infected but also dangerous and savage groups. Over on Reddit, an interesting discussion has taken place where user Critical-Toe9128 posed the question, “Rick Grimes gets spawned into TLOU universe. Is he surviving?”. While many of the comments state that without a doubt the fierce leader wouldn’t have any issues dealing with the numerous infected, the WLF, or the Fireflies, some believe that he could cause a lot of trouble because of his “god complex”, as well as how different the infected are in The Last of Us.
“The amount of fatal situations that man has gotten out of in TWD is insane”, said one poster, while another stated, “When push comes to shove, Rick already showed he could be super cruel, like when he turned those cannibals into a paste.” However, some other Walking Dead fans believe that because “walkers” were mostly slow-moving and more predictable, Rick might struggle to keep up with the various ranges of infected in The Last of Us, like Shamblers, Runners, Stalkers, and Bloaters. There’s also the question of whether his ego would allow him to work well with others without coming up with dangerous plans that could get him or his group killed.
Rick would also, like Joel, need something to “keep living for”. In the game, Joel had Ellie and in The Walking Dead, Rick had Judith and Carl to keep him moving in a more structured way, so without someone who needs him, Rick could face a really tough time in The Last of Us. What Rick does have bags of is being able to negotiate his way out of most things, so being able to do deals with other groups like the Fireflies, would see him being able to survive in terms of food and possibly weapons too, but it would all depend on whether Rick could keep a level head in more challenging situations.
Even though Rick’s time in The Walking Dead is over for now, fans of the series can rewatch the entire epic survival series again on Netflix. If Negan is more appealing, fans can catch him when season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City airs sometime this year.
