This Bed We Made is a gem among the numerous game releases in the past few years, a noir mystery set in the 1950s that exceeds expectations and takes you through a new, refreshing experience. Created by indie studio Lowbirth Games, the game puts you in the shoes of Sophie Roy, who worked as a housekeeper for the Clarington Hotel.

Her occupation and general nosiness make for an excellent detective, however, as she begins to piece together the lives and dirty secrets of the hotel guests. Unfortunately, near the end of the game, Sophie stumbles upon a murder and the hotel guests she was snooping on turn into the suspects, and it’s up to Sophie to decide everyone’s fate.

As you might imagine, there are multiple endings to the game regarding what happens to the hotel, Sophie, and the suspects. However, we’ve ranked the best ones you can achieve.

7

Sophie Becomes Employee Of The Month

But Andrew/Beth Is Fired And Bernard Stays

Sophie is named 'Employee of the Month'.

Regardless of what happens to the suspects, there are also different endings to Sophie’s life and her career as a hotel housekeeper. From the beginning, you’ll be given a list of rooms to clean and those to leave alone. You will also be advised by the game to think carefully about which of the suspects’ belongings to throw away since your very career at the Clarington Hotel depends on it. Moreover, if you choose to side with Linda and let Wendy be discovered for her antics, Wendy will be fired.

Wendy’s firing is crucial, as is your performance as the hotel maid. If you successfully clean the rooms you’re supposed to clean and do not leave any evidence of your presence in the hotel rooms you’re not meant to be in, Bernard will dub Sophie the ‘Employee of the Month’. She’ll receive a gift as a further reward, with Linda cheering her on, happy that Wendy’s gone.

6

Sophie Becomes Governess

But Andrew/Beth Is Fired And Bernard Stays

Earlier in the game, we notice the long-running rivalry between fellow housekeeper Wendy and the hotel Governess Linda (who’s also Bernard’s mistress). Wendy ends up writing a derogatory word on Linda’s office door using lipstick and sticks an incriminating letter exposing Linda and Bernard’s affair for everyone to see.

If Sophie throws away Wendy’s lipstick and Linda’s rude letter to her, Bernard ends up firing Linda from her job. By the end of the game, if Sophie isn’t arrested, Bernard offers Linda’s job to her, and it is up to you to accept it or not. Depending on who you choose, Andrew or Beth has been fired, and this event is unavoidable in the game. Unfortunately, this ending and the one in the previous entry are only possible if Bernard sticks around as the hotel manager.

5

Marcela And Anne Are Protected

But Paul Takes The Fall

Throughout your impromptu investigation (aka snooping), you’re able to uncover the romantic connection between Marcela Cruz of Room 509 and Anne Beaumont of Room 507. As this is the 1950s, having a romantic relationship with someone of the same sex was considered deviant and highly illegal at the time.

If Sophie didn’t destroy evidence of Anne and Marcela’s affair, the Detective would charge them with the murder anyway out of prejudice. But there’s a way of letting them be free and that’s by pinning the murder on Paul Morgan (of course, this is if you didn’t find out about Samuel Williams). Paul is jailed, while Anne, Marcela, and Anne’s son Michael take their scheduled train to begin a new life elsewhere.

4

Paul, Marcela, And Anne Are Protected

But Sophie Is Arrested

Sometimes, doing the right thing ends up putting you in the firing line instead. If you’ve failed to open the safe in Room 509, you don’t have the information necessary to push the Detective on the right track. But that would leave you in a sticky situation where you’ll be forced to either give up Paul or Anne and Marcela just to get the Police off your back.

However, if you’re too good a housekeeper and end up destroying every pertinent bit of information in all three suspects’ rooms, the newspapers report that the police can’t progress on the case without suspects. Unfortunately for Sophie, she ends up thrown into prison for tampering with evidence and ‘obstructing justice’. Although decidedly not the best of endings, falsely accusing Anne, Marcela or Paul when they don’t deserve it would be a decidedly worse ending.

3

The Real Murderer Is Apprehended

Bernard Is Let Go, Marcela, Anne, And Paul Are Protected

Front page news depicting the real murderer's arrest.

Of course, the best-case scenario would be to have the real person responsible for Hector Cruz’s murder be found and arrested. But to do this is quite tricky, as you’d need to figure out the passcode for the safe in Room 509. But once you’ve cracked it, there’ll be a treasure trove of evidence to show just why the real murderer is Samuel Williams of Room 504 (the first room you start in).

Possessing proof of Samuel’s guilt will give you the option to tell the Detective about Samuel and clear Marcela, Anne, and Paul. Of course, this is if you’ve removed the evidence showcasing Marcela and Anne’s illegal romance and Paul’s history as an asylum patient and his job to observe Marcela. Once this is done, Marcela, Anne, and Paul go their merry way, and due to this, Bernard is stripped of his position as manager, and the hotel is given back to Raymond to manage.

2

Sophie Ends Up With Andrew

The Murderer Is Apprehended And Bernard Is Let Go

Andrew and Sophie kiss in their bookstore.

Quite early on in the game, you’re given the choice of choosing between Beth and Andrew as to who’d be Sophie’s Acolyte (or helper). No matter what you do, Andrew will be fired by Bernard for either his mental history or covering for you after snooping around earlier in Bernard’s office.

As mentioned prior, if you’ve managed to crack the difficult murder mystery case and capture the true killer, Bernard is thereafter fired. And if you opt to romance Andrew, Sophie will have a sweet happily ever after of her own. Andrew has opened his own bookstore and Sophie joins him in the ending montage of the game, with the two sharing a sweet kiss.

1

Sophie Ends Up With Beth

The Murderer Is Apprehended And Bernard Is Let Go

Just like with Andrew, Beth is fired from her job due to either covering up for Sophie or because her sexuality has come to light. Either way, Beth ends up opening her own bar and, just like with Andrew’s romance ending, Sophie is seen embracing Beth at her bar.

One of the best endings in the game is not only scoring your romance options but having the selfish Bernard removed from his post and the hotel returned to his brother, Raymond. The only way this could happen is if you reveal Samuel Williams as the murderer to the police and prove Marcela, Anne, and Paul’s innocence.
