The new anime is titled Kairyuu to Yuubin-san in Japanese – Kairyuu or Kairyu is how Dragonite is called in Japan. So the name would be something like Dragonite and the Courier (Oricon translates it as Dragonite and the Mail Courier). It was announced on X (formerly Twitter):
What is This New Anime About?
In the story, Hana, a girl from Paldea, admires a Dragonite who works as a postman. She even dreams of becoming one of the best mail couriers around! After discovering a letter without any address, she decides to go on a journey with her Pokemon partner, Fuecoco, to find out who sent it.
They soon discover the sender’s identity: Rio, a boy who wrote the letter to his father, whose birthday is today! She teams up with Dragonite in a race against time to deliver it before the day is over!
Release Date and Schedule of the New Series
The anime is part of the 29th Pokemon Anniversary celebrations and it will premiere on YouTube on February 27, 2025. It is not yet entirely clear if this series will have only one episode or if new episodes will be added on a regular basis (weekly, generally).
So far, there hasn’t been any official confirmation that it will be released internationally, but special content like this generally makes its way overseas when it comes to the Pokemon franchise.
Taku Kimura (Star Wars: Visions – “Tattooine Rhapsody”) is in charge of the direction and the storyboard, while Kentaro Nana is the head writer.
