Nintendo Alarmo is one of the many surprises that Nintendo has come out with over the years. While the company is best-known for its game consoles and iconic video game franchises like Mario and Zelda, it also has a tendency to be inventive and creative, coming up with unusual releases like Nintendo Labo or Alarmo, or even unusual gaming peripherals, like the Wii Fit Board.

Nintendo has now announced that it’s partnering with Universal Studios to rent out Alarmo units to hotel guests. The partnership will be offered at all of Universal Studios Japan’s official hotels, with a total of seven participating. The offer began on February 3, though Nintendo has not announced an end date for it. Hotel guests will be able to rent out the Alarmo and a AC adapter for it at the front desk when they check in, after which they’ll need to set it up in their room themselves. There’s no mention of an additional fee for trying out the Alarmo.

Like with many Nintendo products, the Alarmo has seen some extreme demand. While it has remained available for sale in the west on the online store, it’s only been available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, possibly in part to prevent excessive scalping. Starting in March 2025, Alarmo will be available in select retail stores, so more fans will get an opportunity to try it then. Meanwhile, in Japan, the Alarmo was set to go on sale in physical stores starting in February, but has since been pushed back to an announced date.
While some may see the Alarmo as a simple gimmick, it’s been quite popular with some fans, and tying it into the Univeral Studios Japan park makes some sense. The park is home to Super Nintendo World, and Nintendo encourages fans to use the Alarmo to wake up to a Nintendo-filled day before they head down to the park. There’s no announcement regarding bringing Alarmo to the western park counterparts, however. If such a collaboration happens, it might be when Univeral Studios Orlando opens Super Nintendo World later in 2025.
