There is no shortage of games inspired by the iconic Legend of Zelda franchise, thanks in large part to its overall influence on the action-adventure genre for video games, with entries like Ocarina of Time going down as all-time classics. Fortunately for fans of the usual formulas and mechanics that the series is known for, indie and AAA developers alike are continuing to release major competitors in the genre.

The surprise villain of Echoes of Wisdom pit players against an unknown threat, which, after Tears of the Kingdom, might be just what the series needs

Such is the case with Cloudheim, an action RPG that appears to take some notes from the fan-favorite Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but with a cooperative twist, allowing players to team up with friends. Developer Noodle Cat Games revealed Cloudheim in a recent trailer, showing off their take on some of the action-adventure elements from the likes of Zelda, as it shows players defeating monsters and massive bosses, gathering items, and crafting various items and equipment.

Cloudheim Brings Zelda Vibes With Its Co-Op Action

The game has seen a lot of comparison to The Legend of Zelda for its fantasy aesthetic and combat mechanics, but it leans heavier into the RPG elements, seemingly allowing players to craft a unique character build. In some ways, Cloudheim appears to have quite a few things in common with the Ubisoft adventure title Immortals: Fenyx Rising, with its focus on gods and mythology and its third-person combat mixing ranged and melee abilities.

As for the plot, there is little to go on aside from the game’s synopsis on Steam, which mentions that players will be in charge of reuniting divided realms, mixed in with some base upgrading mechanics. Cloudheim is set to come out sometime this year, as its Steam store page indicates a release window of 2025, but prospective fans of the game can add it to their wishlist on the platform now to be notified when it is close to launch day.

For now, though, there are plenty of action-adventure games from all sorts of niches to bide players’ time until Cloudheim releases, even from the Zelda franchise itself, as its latest entry, Echoes of Wisdom, launched just last year. For those looking for a more long-form JRPG experience, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is finally available on Steam, taking the PS5 console exclusive to an outside platform for the first time.
