Mackie is a talented actor with a lot of charisma, and that’s what made the Falcon such a popular character. But it’s that full acceptance of Sam Wilson as Captain America, right? Right now, there’s a concern that people will now see the character on the same level they did the Falcon, which was slightly below the top MCU stars. That’s a problem for someone who is supposed to be seen as the leader of the Avengers and who Marvel will want in top positions moving forward. With Feige admitting he wants Captain America: Brave New World to solidify the character, the story needs to be strong and make the MCU hero look as impressive as possible.
Avengers: Doomsday Casting Is Causing Problems
Even though Marvel is putting a lot of effort into making Captain America: Brave New World an exciting movie, Feige is also making decisions that go against the character of Wilson. It has been reported that Evans is going to be returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday to take on the role of Nova, and that’s something that could harm how people perceive the new version of Captain America. Feige clearly wants the character to feel important, but the fact he’s then bringing the original actor back seems to contradict that.
Evans will be playing a totally different character in the movie, and he has denied the rumor that he will be doing so. However, if he returns, it could potentially damage the work that is being done in Captain America: Brave New World because the attention would immediately turn to Evans and whatever he is going to do in Avengers: Doomsday. Even though he isn’t going to be playing Captain America, it will simply remind people of the change and the fact that people miss Evans in that role.
Feige needs to show the right commitment to Mackie in this role, backing him completely to ensure the character remains just as crucial as ever. That will be down to the creative decisions that are made, which Feige has a big role in overseeing. People want to buy into the new version of the MCU star, and Captain America: Brave New World will be the starting point for that. The film has lots of pressure, and hopefully, Mackie’s version ends up being just as beloved, but Feige has to be careful with what he does next in order to make that work.
