Saber Interactive is adamantly building on its success in 2024 with the launch of Space Marine 2 patch 6.0. Out today, the major update for the co-op game packs in a ton of features, from new threats and locations to quality-of-life upgrades. It’s another reason to come back to a game that dominated the Steam charts last year, earning its place among the biggest and best Warhammer 40k games on PC. Whether you’re a pure PvE player, enjoy some competitive multiplayer, or simply relish blasting through Tyranid hordes, there’s something in here for everyone.

Space Marine 2’s peak player count of 225,690 at launch was an impressive showing, and Saber Interactive has continued to expand on the game’s full complement of features since. The new patch kicks off with a wealth of free content for the Warhammer 40k game. Firstly, the Battle Barge has been expanded with a new area called the Datavault.

There, you’ll be able to earn research data by completing Ordeals across the campaign, operations, and eternal war modes, and you’ll also be able to unlock new icons, weapon skins, and armor parts for your Space Marine. There’s also a new Tech-Priest workshop in the Armory, where you can exchange your armory data for higher-tier variants or sell it for requisition points.

The Tyranid forces have a new Extremis enemy among their ranks. The Biovore is a living, mobile artillery unit that tries to keep the distance, firing spore mines at you from long-range. Come face-to-face with one, however, and you’ll still find it’s a threat, capable of holding its own with rapid swipes and jabs. On top of this there’s a new difficulty setting for PvE modes. On Absolute, you’ll have to tackle “new, more diverse enemy packs that bring extreme challenge” while also facing more stringent ammo and resource limitations.

Want to celebrate your victories with your friends? Space Marine 2 is one of the most joyfully glorious co-op games, and you can lean into that further with an in-game emote wheel. There are six to start with, ranging from chest pounds and firm handshakes to a full-on battle cry. In competitive PvP, you’ll find a new map – Tomb is the smallest multiplayer arena yet, centered on a close-quarters battle zone with flanking routes around the sides.

An FOV slider has been introduced; a much-requested addition for PC players, it gives the ability to adjust your field of view across all aspect ratios. There are new finisher animations to discover, you’ll earn bonus experience if you queue for a quick match rather than a specific mission, and fully upgrading a weapon gives you a bonus mastery point (this is also applied retroactively). Crossplay restrictions for PvP between PC and consoles have been lifted, but you’ll have to enable the ability to play with different platforms through the main menu settings option.

Alongside this comes more season pass content, including the previously teased Salamander champion pack for the Sniper class and a cosmetic armor set based on the Raven Guard. Then there’s a hefty set of balance adjustments for all players to round things out. In particular, Saber says the focus is on improving perk trees across every class, and that “the vast majority of changes are buffs that should benefit different play styles.”
