It’s tough to pick a favourite, but some Turtles in Splintered Fate are better than others.

Beyond making a ton of sense as one of TMNT’s all-time most popular characters, Casey Jones is also Splintered Fate’s most unique and potentially powerful hero yet. Here’s everything you need to know and how to make the most out of him.

How To Unlock Casey Jones

Selecting a Turtle (or Casey Jones) in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate.

The only way to unlock Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is by purchasing the Junkyard Jam DLC pack, which just launched yesterday. Doing so will give you instant access to Casey Jones and allow you to play as him whenever you want, no matter what part of the story you’re in.

To start playing as Casey, you’ll need to be in the Turtles’ lair and head over to the left side of the room where you switch characters. You’ll see that Casey is right there next to the other Turtles and ready to be taken on some runs to fight Shredder.

Casey Jones’ Moveset And Specials

Basic Attacks And Stats

Casey’s basic attack string is a three-hit-combo with his hockey stick that has a similar range to Donatello’s bo staff and ends with a powerful slam into the ground. Casey falls somewhere in the middle of the group when it comes to speed, as he’s not as fast as Mikey but doesn’t feel as sluggish as Raph.

As for his Inspirations, Casey’s special attack causes Guard Break to enemies for four seconds when hit. Using his special will also cause his next attack to be a Final Strike with a 30 percent critical hit chance, making him quite the powerhouse.

Special – Hockey Puck

What really sets Casey apart from the rest of the Turtles is his special move, which can’t be changed during a run. That move is a projectile attack where he flings a hockey puck at enemies from far away, making him the only character in the whole game that has a guaranteed projectile option during runs.

The other Turtles have to rely on getting Tools or the Shuriken modifier for ranged attacks, giving Casey a bit of an edge over the rest.

The hockey puck has decent attack power and is capable of defeating early enemies in just one hit, but its real strength lies in finishing off enemies from afar. Without any upgrades, the puck will bounce between two enemies before disappearing, but this can be upgraded during runs if you run into a Mastery pick-up.

One of the best things you can do for Casey’s special is pick Leonardo’s mastery and gain two uses of the hockey puck attack. This will give Casey plenty of chances to fire at enemies from a distance.

Without a doubt, the hockey puck is one of the best special moves in the game. While it isn’t as strong as Raph’s special, the options it adds to combat make it a great boon for Casey. A lot of power-ups during a run will affect the hockey puck too and give it modifiers, such as inflicting ooze, fire, or Utrom damage.

Tool – The Juice

Casey Jones' "The Juice" tool in TMNT: Splintered Fate.

As great as the hockey puck special is, Casey’s real ace up his sleeve is his default tool – “The Juice”. Using this tool during battle will speed up the recovery rate of Casey’s special (essentially recharging it within seconds) and, at Level 1, also give him a 30 percent boost to his general damage. That can also be upgraded to deal nearly 50 percent more damage with each hit.

While The Juice can be swapped out with other tools during a run, it’s one of the best in the game and a great option to keep whenever you’re playing through a run as Casey. Its recovery cantake quite a while and requires you to stay active during combat, but it’s worth activating whenever it becomes available.

If you’re playing as Casey and get the chance to upgrade your tools and abilities, The Juice should be one of your main priorities. Getting that damage up as soon as possible will be a great help for reaching the end.

Tips For Playing As Casey Jones

Casey and Raph in TMNT: Splintered Fate.

Although Casey’s ranged special might make you think that he’s a more defensive character, his basic combo and attacks are just as reliable as the other Turtles. When playing as him, you’re going to want to keep on the offensive at all times to keep recharging your tool and special, and then unleash them whenever possible to maximise damage.

I stuck with The Juice for the whole time I played as Casey, which is a good tactic to follow. The only other Tool in the game that really comes close is the Meteor Storm.

As the only character with a guaranteed projectile attack, it’s also a good idea to give Casey another dash charge if you get the chance during a run, as that gives him some more distance to use his special when it’s fully charged. Beyond that, most of the specials and abilities you get during a run will work well with him, although I felt he was least suited to most of the Water skills.

From my time playing as Casey, the affinity he was most suited for is Flame abilities. It’ll be completely up to luck whether you get the chance to have Flame abilities, but almost all of them suit Casey’s playstyle well. Flame Strike, Flame Abilities, Flame Dash, and Rapid Fire all work great for Casey’s fast-paced in-and-out gameplay style and are ones to watch out for.

Really, no matter what abilities you choose to give Casey, his basic attack combo, special, and tool are all so strong that he’s a great pick all-around. He might be just shy of Raph as the strongest character, but he’s got more than strength.
