The Dark Souls franchise has always been known for presenting players with considerable challenges, vast areas to explore, and dozens of items to discover and use to their advantage. Dark Souls 3 isn’t an exception, as various useful items can help boost players’ Stats or gain more Souls per kill.

The Farron Greatsword is one of the best weapons in Dark Souls 3. Here’s what you need to maximize it’s potential, and wreak havoc in the land.
One such item is the Shield of Want, which, among other things, helps players gain 20% more Souls for every enemy they kill. This might not seem like much when dealing with smaller enemies that yield few Souls. However, the increase is definitely noticeable when bringing down large bosses who yield hundreds of thousands of Souls, or when Soul-farming in any of the locations ideal for it. Here’s how to get the Shield of Want in Dark Souls 3.
How To Get The Shield Of Want
Getting the Shield of Want isn’t as difficult as players might think, as there’s no need to defeat a boss to obtain it, nor are there thousands of Souls required to purchase it. The Shield of Want can be obtained in the Smouldering Lake area, specifically, near the entrance to the Demon King’s boss fight and the Demon Ruins bonfire. You’ll have to be careful when navigating this area, as there’s a massive stone worm you can’t damage with regular weapons and a mysterious Ballista firing enormous bolts in your direction.
Before you reach the end of the Smouldering Lake and see the Demon King’s boss arena entrance, turn right. Next to a big tree, you’ll see an object. Pick it up and you’ll have the Shield of Want. If the worm is bothering you too much, you can use the giant bolts being fired at you against it. All you have to do is get the angle right so that the worm gets hit by the bolts being fired at you.

The Onyx Blade is a great weapon on its own in Dark Souls 3. However, it becomes exceptional when paired with the right build.
Can The Shield Of Want Be Stacked?
Yes, the Shield of Want’s effect can be stacked. In fact, you can combine two Shields of Want together to get a 40% boost instead of 20%. Naturally, you’ll have to wait until NG+ or use cheats to get the second one, but it’s well worth it. In addition to this, you can also wear the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring, along with the Symbol of Avarice headpiece, both of which boost Soul acquisition. Just be careful, as this last item slowly drains your health.
By combining all these items, you’ll get almost twice as many Souls per kill, which can help you increase your Stats quickly to wield weapons like the Moonlight Greatsword, which is known for requiring a steep 26 Intelligence.
