As you work on building a family in The Sims 2, you may find that public transportation is less than acceptable when it comes to getting to work, taking the kids to school, or just going out with friends. While it’s nice to have work come pick you up, sometimes you need a change of pace. That’s where your own personal vehicle comes in.
Demonstrate your wealth in The Sims 2 buy building a garage and buying a car. We’ll show you just how simple it can be to buy a car and house it safely so you can drive to work in style.
How To Get A Car
To get a car for your sim, you’ll need to start by adding a driveway to the lot. This can be found in the build menu under the garage icon. You’ll find driveways and garage doors, as well as a helipad in this section.
Select the longer driveway with a small bar at the bottom. The larger section of the driveway will go in your lot and the small bar will hang over the sidewalk. You’ll need to place the driveway so it connects to the street and has enough space for your sim to back out.
After it’s placed, you can purchase a car from the miscellaneous section of Buy Mode. Below are all the available cars you can find:
Car |
Price |
---|---|
The Smoogo Minima |
$950 |
The Smord P328 |
$2,250 |
The Landwhale by Heaveola |
$4,250 |
The Yomoshoto Invasion |
$6,250 |
Hunka 711 by Hwang Motors |
$11,950 |
Once you pick your car, place it in the driveway to purchase it. You can then assign an owner to the car by clicking on it. Additionally, you can send a sim to get a car alarm installed for 250 Simoleons. The installment takes an hour of in-game time.
When you assign ownership of the car to a sim, the sim will always take that car to work and when leaving the lot.
How To Build A Garage For Your Car
If you don’t want your car to sit outside all day, you can build a garage to house it. The process is similar to building a house, but involves a few other things. For example, you’ll need multiple driveways. The shorter ones without the overhang on the sidewalk are meant to be attached as extensions.
With an extension placed behind the initial driveway, you can now box in the addition with walls and a roof. Make sure to add a garage door as well so that the vehicle can be driven outside the designated space. When your sim drives, they’ll pull all the way into the driveway so the car is safely stowed inside.
You can have multiple cars on the lot, but they might block each other in when one sim tries to leave.
How To Buy A Helicopter
Cars can be overrated, and having lots of extra money and space may seem like a waste if all you have is a small car. Instead, to flaunt your successes, you can purchase a helicopter to take you around town!
In the same way you’d place a driveway, build a helipad on your property. It takes up a lot of space, so make sure you have enough cleared away before embarking on this endeavor. After the helipad is constructed, go back to Buy Mode and access the car menu to find the helicopter. Place it on the helipad and you’re all good to go!
