Ameku M.D. features the titular fictional genius Dr. Ameku, who makes from simple to complex diagnoses, and sometimes lends her help to the police to solve crimes involving strange medical circumstances. Crunchyroll streams episodes as they air in Japan.

Next week, instead of a new episode of the anime, Japanese TV will air another episode of Takao Ameku’s Day Off, featuring Ayane Sakura, the voice actress who plays Ameku – it is not the first time it happens, and these specials are not streaming officially in the US. Meanwhile, Episode 7 will debut on February 19.
Schedule of Ameku M.D. in Upcoming Weeks
The schedule is as follows, if no further changes take place:
- February 12: Takao Ameku’s Day Off: Ayane Sakura goes for a medical checkup
- February 19: Ameku MD Episode 7 (“Prescribed Poison”).
It seems that these breaks are pre-arranged, but it’s hard to confirm that.
Ameku MD Mixes Anime, Dr. House and Crime Series
The anime is based on the same name novel written by Mikito Chinen and illustrated by Noizi Ito (Shakugan no Shana character designer ), which unfortunately hasn’t been licensed in the US yet, as neither are the manga based on the series.
The story is set in a general hospital and follows Yu Takanashi, an assistant of Dr. Ameku Takao at the Department of Investigative Pathology – this department is basically assigned to cases that no other department is currently able to handle. While Ameku is brilliant when it comes to diagnosis, she has a distinctive, and rather hard to deal with, personality.
As the department mostly deals with cases hard to diagnose, it is not uncommon for Ameku’s patients to be victims of crimes – especially heinous crimes in which the perpetrators tried to tamper with the evidence and circumstances. However, in some episodes, she deals with ordinary patients.
Anyway, this is an anime that Apothecary Diaries fans would likely enjoy, as well as medical drama and crime show fans.
Dr. Ameku is available on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed (the schedule is a few weeks behind the subbed schedule).
