It seems rumors of an Avowed PlayStation 5 port are coming alive as the game’s release date draws nearer. Avowed is Obsidian Entertainment’s new fantasy RPG based on the Pillars of Eternity universe that’s set for release later this month on February 18. As with any other Xbox first-party game, it’ll release day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Recent months have seen a ton of discussion surrounding Xbox’s first-party games that are rumored to be making the jump over to PlayStation 5 following Xbox’s apparent shift in strategy. A number of high profile Xbox games have already been confirmed to appear on PS5 in the coming months. Just recently, Xbox’s 2021 smash hit arcade racer Forza Horizon 5, considered one of the Xbox Series X and S’s very best console exclusives this generation, has been locked in for a PS5 release this Spring. PlayStation gamers are still waiting for the promised Indiana Jones and the Great Circle port, and Obsidian Entertainment’s sci-fi RPG sequel The Outer Worlds 2 confirmed a day one PS5 release back in December at The Game Awards. Furthermore, Starfield is rumored to show at next week’s Sony State of Play with a PS5 port announcement.

Avowed’s Godlike Features are a Dream for Character Customization
Avowed’s character creator has some extremely tough competition, but its Godlike features could be just what it needs to stand out from the crowd.
All of this has caused a whirlwind of rumors and speculation surrounding some of Xbox’s nearest and dearest franchises, like Halo and Gears of War, but also some of the platform holder’s new first-party IPs like Avowed. At the moment, Avowed is only confirmed to be releasing on Xbox and PC, but a recent MinnMax Rapid-Fire interview with the game’s director, Carrie Patel, has made some waves. Early on in the interview, host Ben Hanson slyly hits Patel with a sudden suggestion that Avowed is almost certainly destined to be brought to PS5 at some point in the future. Caught off-guard, Patel instinctively gives a small nod before seemingly catching herself and switching to a nonchalant shrug.
Avowed Game Director Inadvertently Sparks PS5 Port Rumors
Of course, Patel’s reaction to Hanson’s clever query doesn’t serve as an official confirmation that Avowed will end up on PlayStation, but seeing how many other big first-party Xbox games are set to land on PS5, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise at this point. Between Obsidian’s two big upcoming RPGs, Avowed makes the most sense as an Xbox console exclusive as The Outer Worlds 2 is a sequel to a multiplatform game. With that said, PS5 port rumors will likely continue swirling long after Avowed‘s release later this month.
In the meantime, gamers on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass can look forward to delving into Obsidian’s fantasy RPG adventure on February 18. Avowed is surely one of the most highly anticipated RPGs of 2025, next to games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Only time will tell whether it finds its way to PlayStation 5 three, six, or twelve months from now.
