Resident Evil Re:Verse is shutting down in late June 2025, Capcom has announced. The Japanese gaming giant decided to pull the plug on Resident Evil Re:Verse less than three years following its release.
Originally announced in January 2021, Resident Evil Re:Verse is a live-service game envisioned as a multiplayer shooter for between two and six people. It was released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in late October 2022. While it debuted with a $29.99 price tag, anyone who purchased Resident Evil Village received a complimentary copy of Re:Verse.

On February 5, just three and a half months following the game’s second anniversary, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Re:Verse will be shutting down. Its servers are scheduled to go offline on June 29, at 11:59pm PDT. All Resident Evil Re:Verse post-launch DLC and the game itself will be delisted beforehand, with Capcom planning to pull them from digital storefronts on March 3, at 9pm PDT.
In a prepared statement, the publisher highlighted that Re:Verse was developed as part of its celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, suggesting that the live-service title was never planned to run indefinitely. “Now that we’ve reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably,” Capcom said. As part of the same move, the publisher thanked its fans for their ongoing support, while apologizing for any inconvenience stemming from the upcoming shutdown.

Capcom is still giving away complimentary copies of Re:Verse to anyone who buys any edition of Resident Evil Village. This practice will continue until the game is pulled from Steam and the PlayStation and Xbox Stores in early March 2025. March 3 is also the final deadline for Resident Evil Village owners to redeem their free Re:Verse codes—for obvious reasons. And while the live-service title will remain playable for almost four more months afterward, it will no longer offer any in-game purchases, including its variety of cosmetics and RP Booster packs, as well as its $9.99 Premium Pass.
Now that we’ve reached a new turning point for the series, we feel that Resident Evil Re:Verse has served its original, celebratory purpose admirably.
The newly confirmed Re:Verse shutdown will mark the end of a project plagued by setbacks. While originally meant to celebrate the series’ 25h anniversary in 2021, Re:Verse was delayed all the way to late 2022. When it finally hit the market, it was met with a largely negative response from the public, as underlined by its “Weak” rating on OpenCritic, derived from an average score of 38 and zero reviewer recommendations. Resident Evil Re:Verse also has “Mostly Negative” user reviews on Steam, as well as a meager 2.8-star player rating on the Xbox Store.
