Summary
- Warner Bros. uploaded 31 films on Youtube since 2025, allowing free viewing with ads or ad-free for Premium subscribers.
- The random film selection includes hits like Mr. Nice Guy, aiming to increase access and potentially recover revenue.
- Warner Bros.’ move on Youtube may set a trend for production companies to distribute less marketable titles easier.
In an age where many streaming platforms have made it harder to access classic films, Warner Bros. have put more than 30 feature films on Youtube (as reported by Variety). Since the beginning of 2025, the entertainment company has silently uploaded 31 films, of varying genres and ages, to their own Youtube channel, where audiences can watch them for free. While most viewers can watch the films with ads, Youtube Premium subscribers will be able to watch them without interruption.
Warner Bros. have provided no explanation for this out-of-character move. The company has been criticized in recent years for canceling finished projects, like the Batgirl film, and the live-action cartoon hybrid Coyote v. Acme, before they could be released to the public. Some have viewed this as a goodwill gesture from the company, after these controversial decisions. Perhaps this is simply Warner Bros. attempting to increase accessibility to its large catalog without a paywall, while also recouping some revenue from Youtube’s advertising system.

Streaming Services Have A Marketing Problem
From Netflix to HBO, almost every service lets interesting shows get ignored and subsequently canceled because no one ever hears about them.
The selection of films ranges from cult classics, like 1982 hit Deathtrap, to box-office flops, like 2000’s Dungeons & Dragons, and even Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change documentary The Eleventh Hour. The random selection of films makes Warner Bros. choice even more bewildering, with no apparent theme to draw the collection together. The most viewed film on the current list is 1997’s Mr. Nice Guy, starring Jackie Chan, which succeeded at the box office upon its initial release. Still popular, Mr. Nice Guy has chalked up over 16 million views since its upload on January 1st.
Will audiences see more production companies treating Youtube like a streaming service in years to come? Ultimately, it could be a smart move for distributing obscure, less marketable titles that don’t do well on traditional streaming platforms. Warner Bros., for one, seems set on continuing this trend, with a message on their Youtube channel reading, ‘Keep an eye out for more feature length films for free, right here.’
